Old Abu Dhabi and Dubai Photos - Maribel Eco Systems

There are some nice photos here from the 1960s and 1990s of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Interesting photos. What strikes me is that in '65-67 when the photos were taken, AD was a dusty, almost non-existent outpost, while Dubai was already a thriving little city. In the Intervening years AD obviously overtook Dubai, but not for long it seems.

From what I understand, BD, Dubai has been occupied, and serving as a trading centre, for at least a thousand years. Abu Dhabi island was totally uninhabited until the mid-1700s, when a freshwater spring was discovered on the island, and some members of the Bani Yas tribe relocated here from Liwa.

Of course, historically, Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah were the wealthiest and most important city-states in what are now the Emirates
