Aid Points for Gaza in UAE

I was looking for concrete charitable organisations within UAE to whom I could donate to for Gaza.

I came across Aramex, and I thought I'd let everyone know they have a Gaza Campaign going on in UAE and will be collecting donations in:

  • Mall of the Emirates
  • Deira City Centre
  • Sharjah City Centre
  • Ajman City Centre.
  • Carrefour, Airport Road - Abu Dhabi
  • Al Ain Mall, Al Ain - Abu Dhabi

  • They require:

First Aid kits, medical emergency supplies, chronic illness medication, Personal hygiene products, Non-perishable foods, New clothes, Tents and Blankets.

Some things which Israel is NOT allowing through:

  • Salt
  • Whole Dates (only seedless dates are allowed)
  • Used/old clothes (only NEW clothes are allowed)


Please ensure the validity date is at least 6 months for food and at least 1 year for medicine.

Donations are accepted from 1st of January till the 11th of January.

Please pass on the word and if you know of any other organisations who are sending aid to Gaza and need donations within UAE, please post them here including their locations. The death toll has gone past 400 and there are thousands injured and in need.

Dubai Cares Campaign: From Jan 14th to Jan 20th.

Dear Friends,

Dubai Cares is joining a united front of UAE-based relief and charitable organizations to pledge humanitarian assistance and mobilize the UAE community to help alleviate the suffering of children in Gaza. There are approximately 275,000 students of primary school age in Gaza and Dubai Cares is asking for your help to support them in this time of need.

Here's how you can help. Dubai Cares is currently recruiting volunteers to help package 50,000 basic school kits and 50,000 hygiene kits for the Children of Gaza. Approximately 150 participants are needed each day for this event as we are aiming to assemble approximately 10,000 kits a day. We would be honored if you could join us.

Dubai Cares will supply all of the items required for the kits and we need your help to pack and prepare them for shipping to the children of Gaza.

Date: Wednesday, January 14 through January 20, 2009
Venue: DIFC (Emperor Hall)
Timing(s):
• Weekdays: 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
• Friday January 16, 2009: 2:00 -6:00 p.m.

    @ Lirun, could you please reconfirm that truckloads are indeed being allowed through??

    I watched an intervention by a Palestinian govt. representative on French channel TV5 news last night who claimed that goods/ medical supplies are barely getting through, if at all. A Western doctor said the same.

    I truly hope it is not the case. Honestly, I don't know anymore who and what to believe.

    It would be a tragedy in itself if relief is not reaching civilian victims.

    First few days of the strike and I was getting so frustrated with myself because I wasn't doing anything/couldn't do anything except pray. It made me feel helpless.

    Cheeky Minx: Honestly, I'm actually not sure but I heard Interpal was doing something. However, I also heard that a lot of charitable organisations which were donating to Gaza got shut down. So you'll have to check on that.

    I read in the news how one boat carrying medical supplies and doctors to Gaza was attacked and how trucks too were stopped.

    Guys, a friend in the occupied territories told me that the trucks are getting through, albeit slowly and painfully (100 so far, which is a minuscule number).

    But we have to remember that with such a sheer scale of human catastrophe, the borders will have to open sooner or later, and what's important is that when they are open the relief agencies will then have the material to deliver.

    all i can go off (honestly) is what the papers and my friends are saying..

    my soldier friends in the IDF have told me that 300 trucks got through over the past three days - an average of 100 a day..

    Animal fodder is important to feed animals that are a source of milk, eggs etc. Sadly, since the blockade it has been reported that Gazans themselves have had to resort to consuming animal fodder due to massive food shortages.

    Humanity at its venal worst again in Palestine / Israel. Sticking plasters do help but I wonder who they help more in this case the giver or the receiver? Nothing will ever change in the region until the extermist nut jobs on both sides are reined in. So for it is worth (not much I admit) my old clothes and charitable donations continue to go local and at least I know they get to where they are meant to.

    Here are some personal assessments I made when searching around for places to donate cash online.

    UNWRA has a bank in Gaza, and reading their reports etc. online has done a lot of significant work in Palestine over decades. Eg. I read that they successfully helped reduce the infant mortality rate among the refugee population. Also have met quite a few Palestinian professionals who attended UN schools and were provided with nourishment in the 1950s onwards.

    Anyway, some people gamble on the stock market or real estate market, I choose to gamble on charities!

    I strongly support donations of food, medicines etc. However, there are also additional types of support required, such as organisations that help to bring the truth to the world and document atrocities committed against the civilian population.

    Note Israel has "allowed" foreign nationals to leave.

    So I have also donated to the following two organisations:

    www.freegaza.org (see comment above)

    International Solidarity Movement that has international observers choosing to stay and keep reporting, even after most foreign nationals have left. Rachel Corrie who was tragically killed at 23years old, while standing in front of a bulldozer to protect a Palestinian homes, was a volunteer for this group.

    Have also seen very good reports of organisations listed above by other posters. Maybe one should also add Palestinian Red crescent society that is doing a stellar job from the reports I keep reading.

    Regarding the ISM website, it does work, but you are right, I noticed today that the server has been down quite a few times so you have to be a little patient. Been accessing it through Google cache.

    Just read a report by ISM volunteer that 80% of calls for help from ambulance services cannot be met.

    I have read "Schindler's list" by Thomas Keneally. I would recommend the book over the movie which is not that good. You would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved. The entire population of Jews in Krakow, Poland, including surrounding villages were forced to relocate to a newly established ghetto, with each person granted 4 cubic meters of space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Reinhard_in_Krak%C3%B3w). Frankly, reading the reports coming from Gaza, what is happening reminds me of an account in the book of a massacre that occurred in this Ghetto. Shudder to think how much worse it could have been if the world couldn't see. Unlike others, I believe new media (including blogs) has a significant role.

    I read 7days the other day... and aramex trucks ARE going through. They're going from here to Jordan and then go on from there.

    However, it going to take time, considering sometimes the Israelis don't let them through and if they are, are doing it slowly.

    Sorry to be a downer - but there lies the problem. Relgion and interpretations of events which may or may not have happened a long long time ago. There are relgious and nationalist nut jobs on both sides who will not let their hate and their version of history go. It is possible for people of different belief systems or none, to live side by side but sadly recent history shows that the haters, the intolerant, have made this very difficult.

    Anyway back to the thread - good point about blood donation. Do the Red Crescent collect any? I have an arm full to spare.

    Red Crescent Abu Dhabi says The Blood Bank has a such initiative at their new centre behind the Khalidiyah Mall in AD and that the campaign runs from today to day after. I'm not able to reach the Blood Bank to confirm.

    Could someone who lives in AD simply go there and check please?

    Update: There are money donations being taken in specifically for Gaza at all Union Supermarkets.

    And yes... I was surprised myself. I came across a video of thousands of Israeli Jews in Tel Aviv protests their governments action.

    CheekyMinx... let me know if you find out something. But I was wondering how would blood donations get through?

    If Jordan is doing it though I'm sure we can do too.

    Sigh... Jordan is doing a lot Mashalla... I just feel we could do more then what we're currently doing.

    Just a quick note people; I found a couple of months old article where a senior doctor at Gaza's Al Shefa hospital was interviewed and said there's a dire need for ANTIBIOTICS.

    Guys, I've updated the post.

    There are things that the Israeli Army is NOT allowing through:


    • Salt
    • Whole Dates (only seedless dates are allowed)
    • Used/old clothes (only NEW clothes are allowed)


    Please, please, do not send them as it would delay the trucks getting into Gaza and the aid on the whole.

    And, Aramex has added new Aid Points in Abu Dhabi.

    They got in touch with me, And they are very appreciative and grateful about what everyone is doing. Already 14 trucks are on their way to Amman Jordan from here and more are expected to go by the end of this campaign.

    DJ, thank-you for the information. Jazakallah kheir... Keep it coming. It's really good to know somethings from the inside and what is exactly being needed.

    Right now though, i think everything is. From body bags, to food to medicine. Sigh. I shudder to think how they're deailing with the dead and injured with an already suffering medical supply.

    Very smart youtube video about boycotting Israel.. but as usual there are two sides to every coin. I had to admit, this is a smart way to show the Israeli side.

    There are some contradictions though, but hey, the Holy Land is full of those!!

    im well and lucky that the armed aspect of the conflict hasnt come closer than 25 kms from my house.. which here is very far away.. :)

    feeling very lost my friend.. its hard to balance your innate sense of injustice with you insticts of self defence..

    i dont wish it upon anybody.. it produces ugly realities like the one thats taking place 60 or so kms away from my house in yaffo..

    i hope that (a) the israelis (and for goodness sake) the egyptians let all aid in (b) the aid gets distributed fairly and does not get abused for political purposes (c) that everyone stop sending aid soon - not out of a lack of compassion but rather out of a lack of need - inshalla gaza shall soon rise again and soar to heights it hasnt seen for many many centuries and become the object of my and my countrymen's friendly and amicable envy and admiration..

    Note: freegaza movement is sending another relief boat to Gaza soon, despite the dangers they will face. As I have said before, the most important thing, in addition to stopping the bombing is to lift the blockade. So you can send all the food and medicines you want, but it won't get through unless the blockade is lifted.

    Also, supporting organisations with human rights watch groups particularly international observers in Gaza like the freegaza movement and the International solidarity movement will help to prosecute some of the IDF personnel who lack sense in going in there and getting into a whole lot of trouble for *war crimes, or even getting killed by their own fire. Pretty senseless, since they have much more to live for than the beleaguered Hamas.

    *Prosecuting them for war crimes sets a legal precedent and helps deter the repetition of such disproportionate actions. Also gives world leaders the message: "This is not a play ground for you to play games in. NO MORE."

    A facebook group can be made by anyone, so the account number could be from anywhere/anyone.
