  7. Wow.. I didn't think that tattoo parlors were illegal here. Not that I have the stomach to get a tattoo (needles and I don't get along too well).. nor do I find most tattoos tasteful.. but I always thought to each his own.

And I figured, Dubai wouldn't miss out on such an opportunity to license shops with extortion-like fees.

  8. MJ: yar that's just weird. rent a room for a night, buy hookers off the shelf, uh... ban tattoos?!

PE: i dont get your reaction.
why? only islam bans tattoos. do you also report all hookers you see on the roads, given how nearly all religions denounce adultery?
dubai is a tolerant city that boasts of people from 197 countries. you claim in many instances it has become too tolerant and that needs to change. but are tattoo parlours the greatest of all evils that need to be eliminated?

why is airbrushed art allowed to be sold at malls - in essence it's representing the same thing?

  9. Banning tattoo parlours is easier than eradicating prostitution.

No one said it was the greatest evil but if you have the "well everything is fucked up so I might as well not give a fuck attitude", nothing will be fixed.

    You do what you can.

  12. There's nothing like the Emiratie tatto, I mean, the black henna, it so looks like tatto and without pain or suffer. I think it's a good alterntive to tatto.

  17. abit: yada yada blah blah. dude, if i was the one getting the tattoo, i would not advertise it on a community blog. :)
i'd also prefer to get one in lahore where we have proper tattoo parlours so there's no shady business.

someone asked me to find out. i said i'd ask around. hence the post.

    a) from what i know, tattoos are haram. for me. not for the person in question.
    b) i didnt know it was illegal in UAE. i have never cared enough to find out. dubai continues to send mixed signals in what is and what isnt allowed.
    c) i didnt know it was that big a deal to ask a question. and im genuinely sorry if ive offended anyone.

i do believe what people do in their own time with their own lives is a personal matter and im no one to judge.

cutting and self-mutilation, btw, are equally haram in islam.

If the prophet were alive today I'm sure he would love what Muslims have become.

  18. al ain rose: i love henna :D it rocks (except for the ten days of misery when henna comes out and you are left with this yellowy fungusy look on your hands. ick!)

  19. Hemlock - A mental disorder is not haram.

It's laughable that you attempt to compare it to something like tattoos.

    Very very different things.

  21. hemlock, yes, it looks ugly when it starts disappearing, but there is a solution to this misery.
    It's ... Clorox!
I'm serious, I haven't ever tried it and I won't ever do it, lol, but I heard it works and some really do it to get rid of the remaining henna drawings.

Does that mean circumcision is Haram?!

actually, what's laughable is how people jump to conclusions when they have little or no information.

abit: But WE have a right to run OUR country as WE see fit.

and ive never argued with that. if you decide to replace all expats with munchkins and oompa loompas, really, i'd totally respect the decision.

alain rose: dude, i once had henna put on my feet and the stains didnt go away for four weeks. i swear it was so gross i couldnt take my socks off :(

DJ: you, dude, are just trying to create even more controversy and im not falling for it :D

From this story in the gulf news, it doesnt seem tattoos are illegal.
    *shrugs*

anyways, im done with this thread :) thanks for the feedback.

  25. If tattoos are illegal here, why are beauty salons advertising their tattooing services in full public view? (which they do in Abu Dhabi)

...Which is exactly why you brought up self-harm and tattoos in the same paragraph.

You obiously know what you're talking about.

  30. second, I was talking about the BLACK henna which is totally a different thing from the ordinary one. it looks like tattoo. try it you won't regret it, say it's a tattoo if you shy to say that you used henna.

    black henna (Emiratie tattoo,lol)is cool.

    ...
heehehehehe... it's your problem that you still live in your stone age.. it'd been a fashion among ladies for some quite time....
and for your imformation, I'm not a henna fan, though I think it's cool when it's professionally done.
