As one of the major sponsors, Emirates Airlines goes all out with their VIP tent.
This year, the theme is Bollywood. Just for Paraglider who reads blogs at work, I've disabled the video's autostart, so click the Play arrow at the bottom left to view the video!
While the whole concept is exciting and colourful, and not to take anything away from the Indian nation, wouldn't this have been a perfect opportunity to promote the U.A.E. and Arab culture?
True NZM, it'd be a decent opportunity to showcase the UAE / Arab ways -- NOT b'wood clown business. I'd think, Emirates, the UAE, India and the Indians have more to offer.
ReplyDeleteehhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteas much as i am a loyal, sometimes even die-hard emirates fan, whoever thought of it has truly lost their head. it's not even glamorous India - its just kitschy.
and yes, they would have been better off trying to promote UAE/Arab culture, even if it meant being stereotypical (tents, camels, falcons, kahwa, sheikhs, jumeirah janes in rather loud hats...)
I don't even begin to understand what Bollywood has to do with Melbourne, Oz, horseracing...
ReplyDeleteWho came up with this brilliant idea I wonder.
Perhaps because what is called "bollywood" is watched by Arabs, Pakistanis and much of the subcontinent. Also with the recent attacks on Indians in Australia and all the baaaad press that generated, Australia would need to make amends.
ReplyDeleteIts also a guaranteed audience of home straved Indian expats in Australia.
Selfridges was one of the first ones to hold a 'Bollywood' fest.
Not so say that Indian cinema as represented by Bollywood is anything but crap...
But its a sure-seller
DUH. They wanted sexy girls bouncing around. I can't see what in the UAE tradition would achieve that.
ReplyDeletePosts that burst into sound when opened are not great for those of us having a quick browse at work!
ReplyDeleteAh Paraglider, Rule #1 while watching at work is to always turn your sound off before opening any private websites!
ReplyDeleteBut I had a look at the HTML code and disabled the Autostart, so anyone who wants to watch the video can press the Play button at the bottom left of the player.
Autostart videos always annoy me too, so I was pleased to be able to do something about this one.
Ah, if only it were always so easy to influence events... :)
ReplyDeleteLeave it to the do-ers and it will always get done!
ReplyDeletei do not get it, someone shed light on the linkage here please?
