Ban me banner!

Try and ban this!

Dubai bans the flying of national flags and banners from cars or buildings during the World Cup "for safety reasons".
(There seems to be an exception for UAE flags plastered across car windows, because as we know, Emirati drivers are safe anyway. Another reason could be that otherwise UAE would never have a chance to brandish their flag because they'll never make it to the World Cup. But that's of course just a malicious rumour.)

I think the recent Emirati approach is that everything should be banned unless specifically allowed.

Actually, UAE qualified to 1990 world cup in Italy.

Also, compared with the hooligans and drunkards, UAE football fans are the epitome of safety.

I don't have a problem with flags on cars and buildings but the fact it pissed u off and ur comparison made me change my view. The more u whine the more resistance u will get.

So ban them all :D

Ban on flags on cars makes sense but flags on houses...how is that a safety issue??

Nick, so does the UK. Have a look
here and here.

Stained, safety wasn't given as the reason by Emaar. They said community rules ban flags from balconies, roofs etc.

Man, the bitterness of some people.

Is this like a syndrome that affects some expats when they live here?

LOL

Miserable buggers

Let's all pretend we don't actually come from other countries, and only fly the flags in the privacy of our own homes...

Nick, the condo association I live, has similar rules on flags. We also have a rule on window curtains / dressing etc has to be white.

DJ,
"UAE football fans are the epitome of safety"

umm..did ya see the beautiful SHJ Corniche after UAE won the 07 Gulf cup? :)

I can see how this rule makes perfect sense in the case of cars; people cover their entire back windows with flags which just proves that they never used them anyway.

I think the same ban should apply then on National Day, don't you - only for safety reasons you understand!

UAE fans so well behaved????? Nobody remember the chaos towrds the end of a fairly recent losing WC qualifier against North Korea in Abu Dhabi? Anybody know why you can't even bring a plastic water bottle into Shaikh Zayed stadium (among others)? Not to mention the array of debris, some dangerous (coins, lighters), some bizarre (sandals, mobile phones) that routinely lands on the pitch even at ordinary UFL games..

Figures. They can't fly their own flag because they fail at sports.

If nations were persons, I swear the UAE would be a bitchy, spoilt little 6 year old girl. GROW THE HELL UP.
