I guess this might be a good step forward:
"More than 500 Emirati job seekers have been placed on a blacklist designed to combat lax work attitudes that include refusing a number of employment offers.
Al Mulla added that other job seekers had been blacklisted for not attending interviews and citing reasons such as not being able to wear a uniform or inability to work shifts as an excuse for turning down jobs."
The pros are realizing that Emiratis should take more jobs in every sector, rather than wanting to be "boss". Nothing wrong with aiming for the top, but if the UAE wants to truly step towards having its citizens take over, they have to be willing to work everywhere.
On the flip side, forcing people to take jobs within a certain amount of interviews seems a bit much. I would not like to be forced to take the next job available simply because I may exceed the allowable limit and get blacklisted.
What do you think?

Wanted/Available??
Like any god fearing unemployed expat on visit visa, I put an ad in GNads4u.com looking for a suitable vacancy.
In two days I have received no less than 20 resumes in my mail inbox :( I did make clear that I am LOOKING for a job and not APPLICATIONS for one... How disappointing!!

GNads should mention 'Jobs Available' instead of 'Available'

Information needed abt employment contracts
Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid, but I'd like to be clear on the legality of things, if anyone has an answer.
Say you signed a contract with someone, wherein you're the employee, and the contract states X amount of salary. Employer one day says he/she has no more money with which to pay you. You still help out as you have personal reasons for doing so, but with no monetary compensation. Under these circumstances, is the person still legally your employer? Can the employee look for and take up another job, should he/she find one?

Little advice here?
I have a feeling I'll get plenty of advice here!
Here's the deal. My husband is close to getting an offer for a 2-year gig in Dubai. So I'm completely confused about maybe a million things.
Here's the deal. My husband is close to getting an offer for a 2-year gig in Dubai. So I'm completely confused about maybe a million things.
- First, regarding the offer, I've heard that he should ask for double his currently salary. That sounds awesome. Is it realistic?
- We have a little house that is not in saleable condition as far as I'm concerned. Do we off-load it because it's too much of a nuisance to maintain it from so far away or is renting better?
- Do people typically get enough in these packages to maintain a home in the US while living in Dubai?
- How much can we expect in the relocation package?
- For 2 Americans who would expect MORE than the comforts of home, how much can we reasonably expect to pay for rent and can we reasonably expect his employer to pay it on top of his salary?
- What necessities should we ask for from his employer that they may be willing to pay but not willing to offer up without us asking?
- What do we do about cars?
- Can I get Comedy Central and/or BBC on TV there?
- We are definitely middle income people with substantial but not debilitating debt. Is it realistic for us to have enough spare cash on hand to get out of debt if we're reasonably careful about spending while there?
- Are there any furnished apartments anyone would recommend?
I'm sure there are a million more questions, and I know I'm a little vague, but maybe you can answer the questions you wish you'd asked before going.
Thanks!
