3rd Bienniel Muslim - Christian Dialogue in Knowledge Village

Some of the students of UOWD are organizing the 3rd Muslim - Christian Dialogue this coming Monday night from 7pm to 10pm in the Knowledge Village Freezone Auditorium. Jumeira Islamic Learning Center sent an announcement recently as well. The topic is "Who is God and How are We Saved?".

Four years ago the group invited Thabiti Anyabwile and Sheikh Tahir Khalid to speak together. Two years ago they invited Pastor Anyabwile and Ahmed Hamed. This year Bassam Zawadi will speak from the Muslim perspective.

The purpose of the event is to foster friendly dialogue and peaceful understanding between Christians and Muslims. All are welcome but especially students. A 60 minute audience question and answer portion will be a part of the program.

Directions: Enter Knowledge Village from Al Sofouh Rd near the base of the Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Media City. Parking is available adjacent to Al Sofouh Road. Auditorium is in Block 1 KV Conference Center near the central KV roundabout.

If approaching from Shaikh Zayed Rd, please take exits to KV and proceed to the parking area next to Al Sofouh Road.

Christian Behavior During Ramadan

A Non-Muslim Guide for Respecting Islam during the Holy Month

"The holiest month in the Islamic calendar is the month of Ramadan. Your conduct, as a Non-Muslim and Christian, will dictate how you fare.
Religious tolerance takes on a different meaning for those living outside a country where their religion is in the majority. At certain times, members of a minority religion expose themselves to situations that cause conflicts. At no time is this more insidious than during the holiest month in the Islamic year; the lunar month of Ramadan. Here are a few guidelines for Christians to follow that will reduce the chance of confrontation..........continue."

"Islamist" and "Islamism"

Tired of ignorant labelling
Repeated and blatant use of the words "Islamist" and "Islamism" in all forms of international media is making me sick. I decided to find out exactly what they meant. An Islamist is a person who is technically orthodox and a fundamentalist. So anyone who follows the fundamentals or guidelines of Islam is an Islamist. Islamism is the ideology that Islam is not only a religion but also a system that governs legal, economic and social structures. Well, Islam is, indeed, a way of life with guidelines for the way we should live and conduct ourselves. So that makes me an "Islamist" ideologist. Arrest me, now!

History of Education

My post about Islamic sex education created a divide among fellow community members, i wanted to put forward my opinion to some muslim and non muslims for better understanding of a islamic opinion regarding sex education .... i meant no harm or did not mean to target anyone in perticular....some of the members pointed out that religion, culture should be separated from the education....

Every individual has his or her opinion and no one can force it to change, nor can i. My posts are meant to share my opinion as we live in a country that is home to many nationalities and cultures.... Its all done in Good faith and to create an understanding between each other....

Well the comments i got made me think about the Education part and its relation with religion and culture, is it related to culture and religion or is it not...i came across History of Education in Encarta...It gives you a fair idea that birth of education is directly connected to culture and religion......

Some of us think what we learn in schools make us a better person and thats called education.. While culture educates a person , so does religion and our life we live teaches us lessons as well...

So i forward this link in good faith so people including me can understand and take it as a reminder of relationship between culture, religion and education....... they all go hand in hand... or atleast have connections in the past, present or future...

P.s... this post in not dedicated to any perticular individual so please try not to take it personally.... i think atleast it will make us look back in history and remind us the basics of education...i believe most of us dont know, to be honest i did not know untill i read it.
