Mysterious and Interesting Nighttime Cloud over the United Arab Emirates

No rain, no wind. Just a single cloud low in the sky. Then a flash within the cloud, then another flash, and then a few more. Approximately 7 minutes later, the cloud disappeared. I've managed to get three separate flashes caught on video.

Ummm... yea. Or probably just a cloud with some lightning.

It's probably just intra-cloud lightning. Looks cool, though :)

Maybe cloud "seeding" , chemically induced to try and produce rain. It's been known to be done over the UAE before. But one cloud seems odd.....

I live in Al Ain, Old Munassir area, and I see this cloud almost every day. Same shape, same place. Couple of times we've seen the lightning shown in your video.

Even I was wondering just last week (mentioned it to my son)how a cloud of the same approximate shape and size could keep appearing in the exact same place every day.

We see it in the evenings and I have occasionally taken pictures of it, thinking how nice it is to see a cloud in summer.

Looking over from Old Munassir (near Baladiya Agricultural Office--now Citiscape) in the direction of the Hilton, this cloud can be seen over the treetops, just the way you mentioned. I figured it must be slightly across the border in Buraimi at the Khatm Al Shikla area. This weekend I'll probably drive across to the Khatm Al Shikla area and try to find out exactly where it is and what's giving rise to it.

Saw a random grey cloud floating in the otherwise cloudless blue sky this morning. Hm.. odd.

succotash -- Yes, I saw the same cloud in the same spot (and in the same shape [but no flashes]) this afternoon. Kudos to your adventurous spirit! Let me know what you find out on your trek! My email is existentialalain@yahoo.com

Perhaps the 'others' were partying.

It's a cloud commonly known as a Cunim. Formed by strong thermal activity, heat rising from the cool ground. These are the clouds responsible for thunderstorms, so the lighting is a product of the storm cloud.
