Speaking of Original Material...

After reading the interesting and insightful comments (and leaving a comment of my own), on the Dead Blog entry, I was a bit reluctant to post this link.

But I decided to go ahead anyway because it's such a great story of UAE innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

I love the fact that the cartoon is centered around women, and that Mohammed employs mostly women writers, whom I would guess are UAE Nationals.

Thanks to the folks at Wildpeeta for leading me (via twitter BTW) to the NYT story here:

Dubai Superheroes: Little Old Grannies Who Wear Veils.

It's nicely done.

Anyone else noticed DU is using them for it's proxy restriction page?

I've uploaded a pic for those on Etisalat or not in the UAE.

Most of the writers are Emarati women, but 3 of the 4 main voice actors are Emarati GUYS who are basically making fun of their grandmothers. lol.

This was the 1st Emarati cartoon to make it big, but isnt currently the most widely wayched. Al Ain rose has a post of Shabiyat Al Cartoon, which is currently no. 1. Also, there is a new one this year called Khoosa Boosa, which is also very good. That one is created by Ms. Najla Al Shehhi.

I love Freej, but the only thing that I hope al Harb, tones down the stereo types of Umm Khamas as the hot tempored loud mouth with black magic hook ups.

Blasphemy, hes not wearing a kandoora !!!!!

On a serious note though, congrats to him, hes made something that emiratis love and even expats enjoy.

Forgot to add, anyone know what that other 3d cartoon is. I think it plays on one of the MBC channels or DubaiTV, and has a much lower quality of animation.

I think its stupid & loud, yet he has done a great job as a pioneer in such an industry in UAE.

Its called Khosa Bosa. Its a bit less witty. More for the kids or teens. Freej is a bit smarter. The smartest and most adult of all the UAE cartoons are Sha'abiyat al cartoon, on Sama Dubai.
