Burj Khalifa

I don't care why the name changed....I don't even care what people think happened. All that matters is I'm proud of Sheikh Mohammed and I'm proud to live in this wonderful country....and a name change is not going to change that.... :)

Anyway thought I'd share a shot I took today at the inauguration....

when you're done with school you'll find that these things are very much worth caring about and that the repercussions are very real. there was lots of speculation about the burj being on sale. and now people are going to be very wary about emaar and dubai in general. phones at emaar will ring non-stop, especially in the accounts department.

there's already a significant shift towards abudhabi, predominantly in the construction industry. abudhabi pays on time, and pays well. whatever the reason for the name change, all that it has done is made abudhabi look even more attractive to investors. a lot of dubai based companies have started setting up shop in abu dhabi in the last few years, more are following and some are even moving.

this does affect you as a student if you were looking to get settled in dubai. the trek along szr sounds more sensible now.

Plasticpoet, can we have these worries later?
Dubai is on the world map and has shown it has guts to do what no one in the history of mankind did so far.

Well as an expat - it is sad to see the polictics behind this - Iconic Burk Dubai branded burj Khalifa

Abu Dhabi are clever....( 10 Million $ is it )

You've actually managed to capture the reflection of the fireworks on the Burj. Well-done my friend.

@ Stained

Your photo is - as usual (!!!) - absolutely awesome!

Your blind attachment and idealization of someone who is certainly not acting in your best interest is scary, not to mention the uncritical conformity with the prevailing lifestyle?!

I am certainly aware that you are not as young as "theplasticpoet" assumes and even aware that you have read Max Weber :-), so you should be capable of being a little bit more reasonable, by telling us how this building (entirely created by foreigners - sorry) will add to your personal benefit or the wellbeing of your society? Would a small building designed by Emiratis with a touch of your distinctive culture not been somthing to be proud of?

Truly great photo Stained. I got a rather fancy Nikon for Crimble & I've been practicing with 'frost' shots (whilst in Dublin). I'm quite chuffed :-)

Proud to live n a country where there is one rule of law for the leaders and their families and one for everyone else.
So much to be proud of. NOT.

Amazing picture. Very proud to be living in Dubai. Who cares what the tower is called? It's an achievement for all humanity - the tallest man-made building ever built.
And all the party poopers can actually do something of that scale, then complain.
