Why Dubai's Islamic austerity is a sham – sex is for sale in every bar

Couples who publicly kiss are jailed, yet the state turns a blind eye to 30,000 imported prostitutes, says William Butler.

Won't bore you with posting the rest of the article here. You can view check it in the link posted above.

Ive lived in Dubai for 25 years and shopped in every mall and never has one of the saleswomen/shop assistant ever given me their numbers on the back of a receipt.

Its all about context. In the UK/US/Europe you can have sex in a casual relationship and no one would give a fart.

In Dubai/Gulf/Middle East, they are supposed to be more conservative, so anything that is deemed sexual stands out more.

Sex is everywhere no matter where the hell you go, how the hell did you think you ended up here in the first place?

They should stop this as soon as possible. It is very negative side of a country. They should focus more on other side like education, international business etc.

I'm shocked about the pervasiveness of hypocrisy and double-standards, but not surprised at all.

Vices are a direct fall-out of success. That's the moral of this article. You can take that as a wake up call or learn to live with it.

Moreover, Dubai or for that matter any city/country that has/had ambitions must have read this somewhere when it signed on the dotted line on a document known as the Devil's Pact. It's a way of life.

Or you can choose to follow Albania.

The choice is yours!

Captcha word on my screen says: bitter.

i think its easy to address any society as ambivalent.. and the fact is that no society is perfect..

i personally dont like the fact that women are traded like livestock.. mistreated.. abused.. exploited.. but sadly its the oldest profession in the world and happens everywhere..

and whatsmore some women even claim to do it by choice and that it serves them well..

the point i take away is that no society is immune.. and that human instincts in the most tragic of ways seem to apply universally and timelessly..

maybe this is one of those subjects that could do with a global educational campaign.. emphasising that both traditional and modern values disapprove of this - rather than accusing one cultural incarnation over another for these omnipresent "flaws"..

It may outrage you but the alternative to this is unthinkable. Police cannot arrest random women because of the way they dress.
Also how do you know they really are prostitutes? I see a photo here of what looks like an Indian "dancing" bar, and as far as i know(and i know cos i work with clubs and discos) the dancers are under strict supervision, and even relationships can lead to their dismissal.
Honestly , i am happy with the way they are acting now on individual cases: if somebody accuses someone, than they investigate, otherwise they don't bother people.

dancing is a beautiful thing.. its entertaining and fascinating.. and at some point a fine line is crossed and it becomes exploitation..

i dont know that the discussion ends at this photo.. although i agree to me also it looks like a nice lady swaying to music.. nothing more..

you think maybe that the people bringing in the prostitutes may be the same people / families that make / enforce the law. Just a thought and mentioned without prejudice.
