Looks pretty good...
The glass panels and the space frame that holds them really look like something you'd expect to see on Mars in fifty years or so. Up close, the panes of glass don't seem like solar panels at all, but they might save on air conditioning costs by reflecting a fair bit of sunlight off. But the 'sheath', as I like to call it, looks quite funny. It looks like the whole thing is a giant razor blade. A feminine one at that too (Venus, anyone?).

I just finished reading a wiki article on Occam's razor, which in part was inspired by the striking resemblance references (to the 3 images in this post) to Venus, the feminine razor.
Layman definition of Occam's razor; 'when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better'.
All curious minds, please feel free to Google Occam's razor for enlightenment!
Back to Occam's theory, I'll take the simpler one is better, i.e the razor, as opposed to phallic to compliment the shape of The Yas Marina Hotel.

While Occams razor isn't as sharp as Occam would have liked it to be, it can be put to use sometimes.
Like right now. But you've got it the other way round. The phallic connotation is actually the simpler one. Last time I checked, this was a pretty male dominated society.
Also, I would hardly call Occam's razor 'enlightening'. It is anything but. You'll find that it's use in any sort of argument is quite frustrating.

I have a budding interest in astronomy. I almost went out and bought a telescope. The (horrible) light pollution in most parts makes it really pointless. But people? They like terawatts of tungsten yellow, maybe it comforts them.
If you're thinking about getting a telescope and using it in the desert, don't bother - the dust pollution is worse.

Please note that the gridshell lighting has been designed by Arup Lighting (www.arup.com/lighting) in collaboration with Asymptote. Rogier van der Heide, Global Leader of Arup Lighting, was approached by architect Hani Rashid in 2008 with the question if his team could light the gridshell. The Amsterdam office of Arup Lighting developed the first conceptual ideas after which the New York based team led by Brian Stacy further developed the scheme together with Tommy Voeten, the Dutch product and lighting designer with whom Van der Heide realised projects such as Galleria West in Seoul, Korea, and Star Place in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
