The Fat Expat got hit by a comment spammer today - www.dubaipropertiesportal.com is the outfit, offering stunning services just to readers of a food blog that are interested in fillet steak: "Dubai Properties Portal its one of the best property portal in Dubai. With us you can list your property for FREE in a few minutes."
Interestingly, I'm in a bad mood and the jerk behind the site has left his contact details all over WHOIS. So for anyone else (I've already had a go) who feels strongly about spam and particularly comment spam on their blogs (it REALLY ticks me off), you can take it all out on Florin by mobile, mail or email. I recommend mobile - it really is MOST satisfying.
Enjoy!!!

That's funny that you are that pissed off about it. People just don't know any better. Then again, does this constitute as a promotional post to the Fat Expat? Just the cynical in me asking.
On a serious note, spam is common practice here and is not against the law, as far as I know. Is it?
Someone forgot to take their calm and happy meds.
So basically you want people on here to be even bigger babies than they already are and call this guy up and...? Ask for Wasel Credit?
alexander: Although I understand the frustration of having to deal with spam etc it is against the rules to post private information of people:
"Listing people’s home telephone numbers, addresses, real names (if not already in common use), IP addresses or displaying any other information considered private is against the rules; inciting other users to do anything similar, discussing it (even if it is meant to be in a light hearted manner) will not be tolerated either."
Now obviously WHOIS information is somewhat halfway between public and private information; however please keep this in mind for future posts.
Thanks,
Sam
I think, reading through the posting guidelines, this post is in clear violation.
However, should this be confusing, may I suggest that the part:
(if not already in common use)
is changed to
(unless individual volunteers this information on this blog)
I find this post to be in rather poor taste.
Anonymous:
Actually regardless of whether you posted your own information etc it is against the rules; the reason simply has to do with privacy of people, you could claim to be someone else and put their number up. The other problem is some websites that often post personal information of people which can lead to 'raids' (i.e. thousands of people calling them up and harassing them).
Also in some cases the listings on WHOIS information can be of the person who works at the company that registered the website rather than the individual who should be responsible for spamming etc.
So why is this post still active?
this post is illegal and subject to punishment of jail or fine
