US businessman: Videos show torture by UAE royal

AP
As a trusted adviser to a member of United Arab Emirates royal family, Texas businessman Bassam Nabulsi says he safeguarded the sheik's most important documents: financial records, investment documents, and videotapes showing the sheik torturing people with a cattle prod and a spiked plank.

When the business relationship began to deteriorate, Nabulsi says, he also was imprisoned for months and tortured by jailers trying to get the tapes back.

Now, the tapes could become evidence in a federal lawsuit against Sheik Issa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a son of the late UAE president and brother of Abu Dhabi's crown prince.
...
The tapes have not been made public but The Associated Press viewed 11 still frames from one of the videos. They showed a man who appeared to be Sheik Issa beating another man with lumber, firing an automatic weapon into the sand around him and forcing an apparent cattle prod into his anus. The victim also appeared to have been partly run over by a SUV and had salt poured on his wounds.
...
The lawsuit has been languishing in a Houston federal court for nearly two years as attorneys tried to serve Issa and others with court papers. Efforts to deliver the documents to the royal family through UAE lawyers have failed and a confirmation of mail delivery was returned unsigned, according to court records.
My emphasis.

The BBC has a report of a different UAE royal in court.

All god-damn lies,

on the other hand Mr Bassam Nabulsi fits the stereotype of "sychophantic towards rich people, abusive towards poor people, double crossing" Levant/Palestinian "businessman"

I dunno whether it's lies or not, but you contribute some attention-getters to the blog John, that's for sure!

I checked out your blog, jeez, sounds very important stuff. People should really comment duh! Listen, I will from now on. I may not always understand what you say or say the right thing back to you, but it's the intent that counts right?

But I do know someone who's tip top on all matters serious, and who will know exactly what to say to your posts. I'll ask him to comment. Maybe he can even use my name, now there's a thought!

It's 'live', not 'leave'. How's that for "ANYthing interesting"?

First of all, UAE is not a barbaric country, it has very well educated people both Emiraties and Expats.

I don't believe this one bit, The Nahyans are rulers of the land and will never let this happen. So, if anyways wants to leave, please do and good luck wherever you go....cause you are not going to find a place like the UAE for sure...

I happen to admire the UAE and its leadership a great deal. But blind faith does not really help the country, and is likely to hurt it. One is the most credible supporter when one is willing to be critical.

Stories of this kind - and let's be clear they are allegations - are the exception. But it is my opinion that allegations of this sort are best handled openly. Secrecy only encourages misbehavior and spreads the tarnish.

In bb's useful classication (above) this is neither Type A nor Type B. It's a story about a charge brought by one individual against another.

According to Steve's logic, if someone is the ruler of a land, they are benevolent by default. Like Saddam and Mugabe. Whether this is true or not, someone here needs a reality check.

I have had past dealings with Mr. Nabulsi. He wasn't "recruited" by the Sheikh. I believe he was a limo driver in texas when he met the Sheikh. I don't think that a man with the resources that the Sheikh has would recruit a limo driver to run his business dealings. This guy is full of it. He is looking for the money, that's all.
