And they're off

The appeal resulted in a suspended sentence. Predictably they get deported.

ALL this noise for this?
At one time I was expecting a public execution...well I guess Dubai just wants not to appear too anti-western after all

Told you so.

It's the easiest outcome all round. I just hope they'll be able to get their lives back to normal. I never really know how independent the courts may be from Sheikh Mo etc - absolutely or not at all - but this would surely be the most desirable resolution from his point of view.

I wonder if an Sub continent person had done the same...what would have happened to him/her...

This really sucks...!!!!

Stained:

If we all start looking at such victories from an ethnic point of view, then I guess we're all doomed to hell. This is also not a victory based on color or where they come from, and what their connections may have been to influence this ruling. But like I had debated in an earlier label about this case, this case should have been wrapped-up ASAP and done so without any complications, least of all go in front of a judge. Right now, it adds another dent to Dubai's image and especially its excessive obsession of being a playground for all things au contraire.

Maybe they really did what they were accused of or maybe they were just fooling around when an over zealous policeman passed by and blew it out of proportion, which in turn prompted the court fiasco. We'll never know for sure, now would we?

But I'll tell you this in case you're eager to know, and I'm not making a minutiae of this ruling but this case was a done deal from day one but at what price to all parties involved, one should ask?

i*maginate, this apply to both male and female !

samuraisam, shouldn't I be given more than one chance? I've seen nastier comments from i*maginate for example but I didn't see anything from u. Looking from one angle again? :|

I totally agree with Stained!!

Stained said...

I agree i*maginate, but then a fairer skin tone always helps anyways...it always has...in the court or at a mall...

Kyle....Its all about the Ethnic point of view...They go away...without a freaking sentence...

And as I had said earlier on another post, I don't care if they were having sex or not....them being on top of each other and being drunk, add to that abusing the police officer is good enough for me to throw them in jail for a year...irrespective of how many panic attacks the female went through...you did something wrong, face the consequence...

i*maginate said...

Stained - the news would not be an international media outcry, would it.

i*maginate said...

PE it didn't.

There's been many posts here asking why people like you say things like you did. Let's leave it at that.

"samuraisam, shouldn't I be given more than one chance? I've seen nastier comments from i*maginate for example but I didn't see anything from u. Looking from one angle again? :|"

You and your ilk have been given chances. Wrong-doers, nasty or not, acknowledge their faults and ask for forgiveness.

Stained - care to divulge into the ethnicity of the politics down there? Please read in between the lines.

Stained, recall an Indi/Pak kirket dude who got caught with drugs? Kinda got away, didn't he?

I do not disagree with what you are saying. However, don't you think, she had enough? (you do realize how *bad* it gets if anyone gets into trouble in the UAE, don't you?) All said, panic attacks aren't fun. Yes, they messed up, however for sake of some compassion, let go. I'd think compassion is what most of us have in abundance.

I just luuuurrrrve how so much about Dubai, from its multi-million $$ Atlantic bash with a Jewish partner and its lesbian invitees to its discriminate beach sex flings proves my point again and again re: the place is like Orwell's Animal Farm! There are dogs, ducks and donkeys. And then there are pigs.

If you have principles, you work like a donkey and are loyal as a dog, while you of course quack like a duck over the injustices you are subject to. Quack! Quack!

If you are smart, you build a pig network and try to change into a pig yourself.

And I just luuuuurve too the intrinsic contradiction of fairer skin people. We love how our skin colour opens doors for us, yet spend so much time cooking ourselves up on the beach risking skin cancer, all in an attempt to to fake a natural tan!

This is all serious entertainment, keep it up guys! ;) Quack! Quack!

Oh, and Sam, glad to see you've got some sarcasm in you boy!

Ok, me off now to work on my pig network! Any pig around? ;)

Soooo.. Being pro-Western means sex in public places is acceptable? *Grief* Exactly how much do we have to keep on compromising and bending backwards (or forwards) in order to reach an international standard of what counts as civilised?

Stained,

"subcontintal" people do not tend to get pissed legless and engage on lewd acts in public. British yobs do. I was hoping these chavs would get imprisoned. And neutered.

Young Brits today are a disgrace to Europe, let alone Dubai.

Scarlett O'Hara said...

Eh? A 34 year old and a 36 year old are 'young Brits' Nick..? Sounds well on the way to middle age to me! Hmmm, a case of old habits die hard?

Totally agree with Stained. If a sub continent dude or an Arab expat has done the deed, there would be no exemptions…

The White Man rules…

Ah, I see the case has reached a climax at last. The previous session was just premature, right?! I'm glad it's all come to a close, eventually...

I agree with Stained. It all boils down to the color of your skin and we all know it. Even if an Asian/Arab got away with drugs etc he/she would have had connections. The lady in question not only did something forbidden in public but also insulted the cop and his religion. I don't know how THAT got past the judge. Anyways, there's nothing much we can do here except for bicker like ninnies. It's like the time when Bush was elected President and we all debated. Did anything happen? No, he destroyed country structures for 8 straight years and we argued even then. Did anything happen? No.

ET off-topic but if that's your pic you're well-fit.

Hey Scarlett,

I guess Dubai doesn't have too many Orwell Fans. You are right about the pig network (not halal though). can i join yours ?

The other thread, I mentioned that laws against disrespecting culture should be as strong as laws against villa-sharers or private taxi operators.

The beach case strengthens my point, which is that, it all boils down to money. If punishment of disrespecting culture leads to less revenues, the culprits will be let off (as in this case).

On other hand, if someone uses VOIP or runs a car - sharing business, he becomes the biggest evil criminal around.

Is money really everything ??

If one is concerned about culture, shouldnt it override concerns over revenue and money ?

Oh dear. You are right Sir. Possibly because Miss O'Hara is not doing a good job of explaining the Animal Farm analogy - See, Mr Mohammed IS talking about the rationale behind Animal Farm laws, but he doesn't seem aware of it poor chap - or he just can't be bothered to state the link!

You my friend are welcome to join my very haraam network on two conditions:

- You take on a more creative pen name than the current insipid Anon one dear (how about Pink P-P-Piglet? :p )

- You are aware what you are getting into... Scarlett's network isn't very piggy-strong at the mo (nor will it ever be, i suspect lol)!

I was hoping they'd get some jail time, but the court would show mercy on them with a reduced jail sentence, maybe 6 months.

In recognition of their marriage they would be allowed to spend spend the time together in the same cell, which they would have to rent for $5k a month.
