I'm so impressed you spent more than Dhs 60,000 for a number plate. You must be so cool! So... can I call you some time? Can I ... be your friend? Everyone's looking up to you. Really. Everyone. No, I mean it. Everyone.

One guy paid Dh 500,000 for a number plate for his son.
So you can imagine the car.
Face it, Barf...even you noticed the guy has money...just imagine the chix lining up....especially here in Dubai...
You don't need charm, you don't need wit, you may even be born without a personality.....
if any of them actually had wasta in the first place they wouldn't be paying for a stupid number plate would they?
i cant wait till the UAE switches to personalised letter numberplates, it would be hilarious watching people complaining about subliminal messages in plates like kcuf
maybe they would be thinking "i gotta have a good impressive number, what if i get caught in a hit n run accident ?? and my car is int he newspaper?? Hey.. camera - bottoms up is my good side.. err i mean my cars good side"
being a salaried expat with a small car - and a person of limited means, i really cant see the point in spending so much monies over somethign like a number plate..
well, it is not only in dubai. it is like that in Hong Kong as well.
people who make tons go for things like this. wherelse do they spend money on? Buy more what? thus they begin to concentrate on all the trivial things...if you acutally really use you brain, you begin to see the awefulness of marketing proposal on people`s seemingly good luck or vanity.
I, for one, think it is a great idea. The overly rich are taxed exorbitantly for something most people couldn't care less about. Meanwhile, the government makes lots of money with very little effort, without having to burden the rest of us.
Oh, I agree completely: if a fool and his (or her, but c'mon, it's almost all his) money can be so easily parted, we should become ever more creative for ways to do that. How about... hmmm... Refrigerator serial numbers? Or foods whose sole difference is how special their barcodes are? The mind reels at the possibility.
However, despite everything, to me a three-digit plate says everything about the man driving: wanker.
Not so sure special plate numbers are such a bad thing. Neither do I automatically think a person driving a car with an overly expensive license plate is an idiot.
In fact, I think it is a decent investment. They do tend to retain their value, so what's the problem? Don't just hate cause you can't afford it (umm.. neither can I ;)
Sorry to confess (being a local myself), but that just shows how shallow humanity can get...What will the number ever add to the character? But I am no judge here I am just making my thoughts heard... Hate how we are becoming, but that doesn't stop me of seeking "Some" light by the end of the tunnel...

retains its value really well, of course until the govt decides to refubish the plate system and take the plates off everyone yet again.
