Farewell to Sleepless in Muscat

Some very sad news: one of Oman's best known bloggers, Sleepless in Muscat, has died at the age of 29. You can read more at Oman Community blog.

He was a long-standing and respected member of UAE Community blog, and one of the earliest pioneers of blogging in Oman.

His very last entry, which you can read here, is a beautiful and sad poem. In tribute to him, here is the last verse:

I grow old as nature would pass me by
Is this the way that I shall always live my life?
The red rose in my hand
Petals flow in the air
Has passion died?
Is there no more flair?

We hope that he rests in peace and wish every sympathy to his family.

May Ali's soul rest in the peace that it truly deserves.

I remember for him the bolg he made to urge people to donate or help the victims of cyclone Gonu that hit Oman in June 2007. May God consider his efforts in his good deeds!

I find it also touching to see the support and attention that secretdubai gives to the other people!
I must acknowledge this good side of you, and I am sorry if I was rude with you, one day!

This is also a gentle reminder to any of us who may have quite active online lives separate from (offline) friends and family: do leave some kind of information about your online friends to a trusted family member.

Otherwise it may be difficult for them to let your net and blogging friends know the worst, should that ever happen.

On a more serious note it can also be important to leave a list of online account names and passwords (especially business or finance-related ones) with your solicitor/lawyer. If you use third party services such as Gmail for business-related correspondence, it can be very difficult for your partners/company to access it once you are no longer able to.

Such a young age to go, very sad.

I'll echo BuJ's words, Inna lillah wa ina ilayhi raji3oon. I hope he's now in a better place.

A reminder that anyone can go anytime.. Cherish the people you care for while you can, you never know when it will be too late..

I remember Ali as a very courageous person. For all the difficulties and health problems he went through for most part of his life, I remember him as someone who would give me hope. And who would always stand up even after falling many times.

I am so shocked to hear this news and I try to re-collect myself to send my prayers to him and to learn from this short and inspiring life.

May Allah bless your precious soul with Paradise, dear Ali. You are so special.
