Hello From Muscat

Hello People,

This is my first post on this Blog and I would like to take this opportunity to say hi to all of you and to express how happy I am to be here.

My name is... well, you can call me Al-Maawali and I am an Omani. I came to Dubai about 2 - 3 weeks ago for study purposes. I am planning to stay here during my bachelors which is about 4 years. And because I am a huge Blogger and I really love Blogging, I thought I would Blog on this community Blog from time to time along with the Blog that I am currently maintaining at www.MuscatxDubai.com which talks about the whole transition process from a small city like Muscat to a major one like Dubai from a student's and a, soon to be, employee's point of view.

To be honest, since I am already Blogging about Dubai on my Blog, I am not sure exactly what I will be Blogging about here but I am sure something will come up soon.

I hope I didn't over advertise my self here or even spam. I just wanted to say hello and let you guys know that there is a new dude in the UAE Blogging scene.

Ramadhan Kareem!

hemlock,

I know! :D I am totally proud of my country and I talk about it in the University with so much Passion.
You should consider moving there if you want a more layed-back and peaceful life.

Mars,

Thanks :)

HUGE Salalah fan! :) Q 4 u Mr al-maawali - how come you lovely folks are all docile, whilst driving in lovely Oman, but kinda become a wee bit rash when in UAE? when in Rome...eh?

a question of a question,
So am I :)

rosh,
Ow Salalah is like a different world. Everyone should go to experience Europe's greenness in the Mid-East.
About your question, I am not really sure but I think it has much to do with how the drivers are in Dubai. People in Dubai drive ruffly and very fast so the Omanis probably think that the only way to get around is to be ruff but end up over-doing it. That's my theory :p I dunno...

Though Muscat has changed a lot from the last time I had visited it (6 years back)....

welcome to the blog and to the uae.. by the way muscat is as big as dubai in my eyes.. and is one of my favorite cities on the arabian peninsula
i love the old muscat.. the walks on ruwi.. the waterfall (somewhere on the road).. and the wadis around it.. burj al sa7wa..etc.. it's a historic city.. don't call it a small city please.

anyway ur welcome here and looking forward to your posts :)

BuJassem,
LOL. I am sorry I didn't clerify more about the big city/ small city thing. What I meant was in terms of development and such. Dubai is much more developed than Muscat.

BTW, the places that you mentioned is what makes Muscat. Really beautiful and I absolutely recommend them to visitors.

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

al-maawali!
ya hala wallah :)
no wonder you're still in university.. my dear bro, when you say a great city i think of a great past and a great history/culture.. not current development!

ok dubai has amazing projects, planning, development etc.. but only time will tell... (although i pray that it will tell us something positive :)

also i forgot to add one of the nicest and biggest mosques i went to in the gulf was in muscat.. this was in the 1990s.. much before the tower-cranes popped up in uae and all over the persian.. ahem.. arabian gulf..

this mosque was so huge and so beautiful (it has no columns too) and the lovely thing was that you felt alone in it.. even with people.. and i remember old omani men sitting there with tied legs.. it was amazing. i remember it like yesterday even though it's almost 20 yrs ago.

ok enough blabbering! have a nice stay in dubai and remember to drive safely :)

A blessing in Tragedy,
I didn't get you on the "Magic" thing...?? I'm sorry.
Thanks for the warm welcome though.
BTW, the website you provided to me doesn't open and I am not sure why. Maybe it is just facing a downtime. I will keep an eye on it.

Bujassem,
I don't know but I think I should be offended by you saying: "no wonder you're still in University".
I came to the Dubai for a reason. I came because I know that Dubai is far more developed than Muscat and I want to go back to Muscat one day with new ideas and concepts. And that's what I mean by Dubai being a big city. Because it is big in that aspect.

What you think of a "great" city is exactly that... "what you think".

I don't deny that Muscat is great. I love it more than any other place. But that wasn't my point.

Thank you :)
