Meteorite/Shooting Star

Did anyone notice a meteorite/shooting star or any other burning object/matter in the sky yesterday between 6.30pm and 6.50pm??

There were a bunch of us outside ACE Hardware (DFC) yesterday who were looking up at this object/matter burn in a distance for while and just disappeared! It wasn't a fuel trail left by an aircraft for sure!

Anyone notice any such thing..??

Gautam: It couldn't have been a meteorite or any other space junk for it to have stayed up for so long.

What colour was it? Could it have been a distress flare/rocket? These flares are suspended on miniature parachutes so they float for a long time before extinguishing.

It stayed for about 3-5 minutes. It was red-orange. It seemed to have been going up rather then falling down.

UFOs!

Big clue here: DFC is very close to the airport. Almost certainly a plane taking off into the distance. Aircraft lights are very bright and a combination of humidity/dust in the atmosphere can refract them over a long distance to look unusual. Most erroneous UFO sightings occur in the vicinity of airports for similar reasons

I saw something similar too at approximately the same time...thought it was a plane trail illuminated by the setting sun....cause that tends to happen sometimes...

The only reason why it couldn't have been a fuel-trail is because it completely disappeared within 5 mins and it wasn't a long one!
