Our trailers are not trash

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the border problem we have with Saudi Arabia so I have decided to open the topic. I find it hypocritical to offer aid to the Palestinians shackled by occupation and to aid the poor Muslims all over the world, and to even distribute luxurious copies of the Holy Quran to all over the world and yet be so cruel to the men that work so hard for so little. Ok, so the UAE has some border issues that need resolving, and we pulled out of the monetary union, but it's silly to take it out on the economy and on defenseless drivers. This is cowardly, immature and shows extreme short-sightedness. In the name of every sweaty driver, I demand an apology from those responsible.

But YOU are responsible. What the KSA wants (really wants) is for us to just give the UAE to them. They already control Bahrain after all. And want the same with Qatar and kuwait.

So you, me, us just being is their issue.

That aside. I also find it shameful to send ONE dirham of aid outside of the UAE when we have our own issues, and our own needy.

As for an apology from the KSA. Man just be thankful they havent bombed us yet. I dont trust the KSA. Too high and mighty... the US of the Gulf.

Everybody knows the reason behind the border problem, Me7ttareen wayed after the UAE abandoned their desperate monetary union. And yeah, they are hypocrite, where are their judges and Mutawa3s form what's going on to those poor workers in this killing weather? why don't they release a rulling that at the very least deplore what's happening there instead of releasing fatwies like, you can smack your wife? lol ... I feel sorry for the drivers there and I hope the problem will be solved as soon as possible.

You're exaggerating. As a matter of fact, they can't harm a fly, the border problems and the likes are the most they can do as a punishment to the UAE for pulling out the union.lol
Me7ttareen.

But you can. Whats in the quran is set in stone, and that is in there. Sorry. You can juggle, jiggle, and wiggle, but you cant change the text.

Me7ttareen.

I'm exaggerating? Ya think? lol.

Actually, they CAN hurt us, very much so. they just havent for fear of backlash from our masters. But remember, where theres a will...

That being said it isnt JUST the union. Remember that the KSA was created out of the al suad family "joining" (forcing) different parts of the arabian peninsula together.

Those parts that did not succumb to their way, Kuwait, Qatar, parts of the UAE (they accept that parts of the UAE actually "belongs" to Oman)... they want.

Thats the gist of it. They wanted the WHOLE damn thing 100 years ago and got 90% of it. They want the other 10, and they cant have it, so we get these games.

After all, political games are a staple of politics everywhere, it surprises anyone that this is going on?

I expect news that they are building a base right ON the current border any day now. Wouldnt surprise me one bit.

it looks like they are clutching at straws to be honest. this bears the signature of a weak man...

Its a pity what is happening but I'm not going to blame the KSA authorities for it. I'm going to blame the UAE authorities who haven't done enough to fix this. I'm sure if enough pressure is applied, things will change for the better, but nothing seems to have been done yet.

hasnt the UAE always had problems with saudi? from what ive heard, pulling out of the monetary union was not an economic issue, but a political one... with saudi having taken a couple of UAE oil fields... parts of the desert which joined qatar to uae... the GCC bank was the last straw...

i dunno, maybe waaaay off mark... it was heartening to hear the UAE red crescent went in to help the drivers.

I've heard from colleagues who have travelled to KSA recently that getting through immigration in the airport took more than four hours due to the new rules. Is it just another way of saying the KSA really doesn't need/want outsiders doing business there?

Dubai Jazz said...

This is pathetic and childish. And as Bu Jassem puts it, a sign of weakness.

Hope it's resolved quickly...

The land that used to connect the UAE to Qatar was GIVEN to the KSA by the late Sh. Zayed in an effort to appease them.

It worked for oh, abut as long as Sh Zayed was alive.

Like I said, they want the whole peninsula. Nothing less.

Supposedly it's been resolved...according to the radio at least....

LOL. Is this the same blog on which so many jumped to KSA's defence not so long ago...?

Maybe it's nothing more sinister than the same newly implemented fingerprinting policy I faced when I visited Riyadh in May - a simple case of a new system that doesn't work properly...

So this means that they just can't!! I think we also have the same intentions but we can't for fear of their masters as well.

I'm with you regarding this, yes they have what's called in Arabic " السياسة التوسعية" , to expand geographically every year, but again, they just can't, cuz simply we are not in a jungle!
If they are really a powerful country as you believe, they would had stopped Saddam Husain's crimes in the Gulf for years, they would had defended when their north lands had been struke by Saddam's army in 1990 after they had invaded Kuwait. I don't see what makes you strongly believe that they are dangerous. The only really dangerous thing they would do is spreading the "domestic violence" and brainwashing our men and turning them to monsters (& you're a victim) and thereby increasing the divorce rates in our society, omg! I changed my mind you're right they are so dangerous! .... lol
Next time you should be careful sweetie, don't believe every thing comes from there, you said you don't trust them, do you?

P.S. BJ: I think your headline is a brilliant turn of words :)

Once again, I didnt say domestic violence or beating your spouse is ok. And neither did that judge.

He simply said that to hit, to STRIKE your wife is infact permissible. and he agreed that most Saudi men take that the wrong way as to mean beating is ok.

I'm sorry, but it is very very clear, that to strike your wife (the way and why is also prescribed) is infact in the quran.

If you dont like it, become Jewish.

I didnt defend them. I was against your twisting of how they do things.

If the UAE 'gave away' the strip connecting them to Qatar, then they have no business griping about it now. If the Saudi's want to drill for oil there, it's their business. It's unfortunate that appeasing them didn't work, but Sheikh Zayed probably saw the best in people.

amazingsusan,

I remember when I was in college and would have different religious groups come on campus and do comparisons with Islam and their faith. Very often, those included a substantial amount of inaccurate information. I always correct them when I can. I'm an atheist, but it doesn't mean that I would sit by when someone says something that is so obviously wrong (to me).

The same applies to Saudi and how people feel about them. I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with an expansionist policy, but I shudder to think the Saudi's would take over the region.

dear bunch of genius commenters...

Regarding the border dispute, if memory serves me well, Sheikh Zayed may God bless his soul traded the strip of land between us and Qatar to get control over Al-Ain (pretty much his first public office).

The agreement was made verbally and what Sheikh Zayed agreed to was not what the Saudis did. Since there was no written proof, the UAE had no leg to stand on after Sheikh Zayed's death.

I believe the agreement might have detailed that the UAE has a share of the off-shore minerals, but the Saudis obviously deny that. Same thing with the road link between us and Qatar. The Saudis claim the land + sea is theirs, but the UAE consider to have only given control of the land bit.

As for the amazingly smart comment by amazingsusan,,You cannot compare apples and oranges..

the apple is filming inside a saudi hotel room pretending you're about to be raped by Saudi security.. and the orange is hundreds of innocent poor truck drivers stranded because of a stupid technicality. A technicality that they say couldn't be avoided..

Yeah right..

BJ: "pretending you're about to be raped."

Talk about an exaggerated misrepresentation! LOL. That comment is like the pot calling the kettle black. Good for a chuckle though :)

oh, sorry, I should have put disclaimers at the end of my comments as to not hurt your feelings.
let's just say that from your video, i got the impression you were about to be put in some grave and serious danger.. a bit like the smuggled BBC videos taken of the mugabe election in zimbabwe.. perhaps others should correct me if i am wrong.

also i would really prefer to be called BuJassem or BuJ.. because BJ is just so wrong! Thank you.

amazingsusan said...

LOL BJ. So sorry you got the wrong impression.

I find it ironic that you personally insult me and verbally abuse me, and then have the temerity to make name change requests. Come on. LOL. You must be joking.

If you treat me with respect, I will treat you with respect in return. I invite you start. If and when you do, I will follow suit.

Oh, and no hurt feelings BTW. None at all :)

Have a nice weekend :)

dear Susan,
apologies for any personal insults.. intended or implied.. this is completely not what i meant.

i simply disagreed with you on opinion.. and it's regretable that you see it as a personal attack.. rather let's see it as a "respectful disagreement" on matters relating to KSA.

i do not think i am alone.. many people felt strongly towards your older post and video.. for someone who lived in the arab long for as long as you did, we believed it was somewhat insensitive. that's all.

at the end of the day, everyone has the right to an opinion.. but that doesn't give us the right to attack others with different opinions.

BuJ said...

PS: correction.. i did not ask for a "name change request".. i was just correcting your incorrect spelling of my name.

amazingsusan said...

Dear BuJassem,

I totally agree with you that “everyone has the right to an opinion, but that doesn’t give us the right to attack others with different opinions.”

Nowhere at any time on this blog have I personally attacked anyone for their opinion. Even when I have been attacked, my responses have been measured and balanced.

I refer you to the initial comment you made (08 May, 2009 18:03) on my older post which began thus:

“what an insulting post from an ignorant sensationalist woman.”

I think any reasonable person would interpret that, and what followed, as a personal insult and attack. Nevertheless, my response was respectful (See 09 May 13:16).

You are right, many people “felt strongly,” in a negative way about that post. Equally, many people were NOT offended by it, and others came to my defense with respect to the vitriolic comments. (BTW, you can see additional comments on YouTube at this link: http://tinyurl.com/nqyoxg.)

It is “regrettable” to use your word, that some people were offended by the post and felt that I was being insensitive. As I have said previously, I’m sorry some people felt this way.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your views with me.

Dear BuJassem,

I have repeatedly tried to post a reply to your latest comment, so far unsuccessfully. If you would like to contact me at the email address on my profile, I will happily send you the reply.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Even though you know that you offended people previously, you just have to get the last word in.
The only similarity here is Saudi Arabia. The holy land.
Oh, and you and the trailers (trash?, nah, of course not).
