Jailed blogger in solitary confinement, family says

Is the Arab world's motto not "let writer beware"?

Good grief. I know things are different in the Eastern part of the planet. But I consider it the crowning glory of the West that government has been separated from religion, that people can say what the hell they like (within the bounds of libel and slander laws), and, most importantly, that a government is there to serve the people - not the other way round. These values might be a little bit threatened in certain places right now, but they are generally enshrined in constitutions and very difficult to get rid of.

Being incarcerated (in solitary confinement, for God's sake!) purely for speaking the truth is just too harsh and inhumane for words.

Keefieboy, I wonder what Dubya has got to say about this?

What's with you and your obsession with George Bush? Sometimes, I wonder about your loyalty.

Humor aside, and maybe I'm not as wired as you are but do you care to shed light on any American blogger that's been counting sheep in a prison cell?

Kyle,
Humor noted. And no, I don't know of any American blogger that was thrown in a solitary confinement. I am just amused by the fact that Saudi Arabia is the strongest alley of the US in the region. And yet the slogans of 'freedom' and 'democracy' don't seem to have percolated to the Saudi individuals….

Look, the need for freedom should come from oneself, and not imposed by a third party. If you don’t want to be free, I can’t set you free because all you’d do is get back to your nest and lay there in a sorry state all your life.

Freedom or to be free comes out of a collective need that follows with an effort.

Currently, it’s ranked on an individual basis in Saudi Arabia. That’s what got that Saudi blogger and his b#@t hauled into isolation. Look what happened to The Religious Policeman – one moment he was taking the mickey out of the Saudi Admin., and the next, he announces his retirement from blogging. There are two possibilities with his predicament; either, somebody got to him or he realized that he was wasting his time by being the sole voice in an ocean of losers that prefer to survive on handouts.

Kyle,
Exactly, Bush counted on the Iraqis, they turned out to be bunch of losers….
