Sheikh Hamdan named crown prince of Dubai

According to WAM...

"Dubai, Feb. 1st, 2008 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued a decree in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, appointing Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Crown Prince of Dubai.

The decree shall go into effect as of today, Friday February 1st, 2008. It shall be published in the official gazette.

Sheikh Mohammed also issued a decree, naming Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum as Deputy Rulers of Dubai, as of today."

A question though, wasn't Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashed (the brother of Shiekh Mohamed)the crown prince before this decree was issued?

first of all mazal tov.. ie mabrook in my language.. secondly.. i wonder what changes you may be expecting if any to the regime as a result of the crowning..

this blog is full of social commentary.. are any of these issues expected to be addressed by the newly appointed monarch?

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid was the deputy of the ruler of Dubai and has always been since the death of their father.

dubai jazz: There was no Crown Prince of Dubai since the death of Shk Maktoum bin Rashid (Allah yr7ama). Shk Hamdan bin Rashid has always been the Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Not exactly. This whole exercise means he's next in line to become Ruler of Dubai.
