I'm not on facebook, and I don't intend to join it. I think the deals facebook's making with some companies, will come back to bite folks in the ass when all the personal and private details will be sold all throughout the net.

Jaya, very good point!

I make a related point in my recent post on the facebook phenomenon. I'm amazed by people's apparent compulsion to share almost every private detail of their life on Facebook, and quite often with people they probably only marginally know on their buddy lists!Just how well can you know 100 or more of 'buddies' on your list huh!

I choose to keep my personal info there to the bare minimum and leave out the neurotic details of my mood history and the like! ;)

To all guys who talk abt fear from sharing all these private info to be sold out there:
-did u notice that after a while everyone is friend with everyone? so what's special in knowing and gathering that?
-did u notice that almost every one watches Lost? so what!
-everyone is adding every bit of stupid Application that allows to post a wall and send a gift? what's so special abt that?

i think that afte a while, too much info plus too much junk is confusing rather than interesting...

it's not private anymore!

I'm there but like Cinderella, I keep details to a minimum and so far I do actually know my friends! I don't use the multifarious features ... in fact I don't actually see the point of most of them! If they are all used, how on earth do people get time to do anything else?

The most useful thing about it for me has been getting back in touch with people who have moved around a lot. But once that conact is re-establised we just email and bypass Facebook completely!

The thing with Facebook, is that there are a lot of fake people there. people posing as other people and so on. you never really know unless you spoke with them in person. Some companies are using Facebook to gather numbers and addresses and then send out adverts and whatnot to people.

So far I have still managed to remain sociable with my friends/family without resorting to Facebook :)

I believe Facebook is taking people away from blogging. I guess it's only a matter of time before Google buy Facebook.
