So what's this post about unless it's guess & comment?

Yes?

Its also called photo Journalism. Our Ruler is busy and HE makes things happen. Just thought you guys out there might want to see it.

It also makes me sad to see that everything posted here is "attacked"

whatever happened to "Hey! this is the Emirates!" stuffz all cool?

Its a very good pic but a little frustrating from a perfectionist's point of view. The colour / shape / space combination is great BUT if only the photographer had been standing just a little further to the right the picture would have been perfectly balanced!

Hey efatima! I really wanna thank you for this post.

I think this photo is like, so cool. I mean the ruler dude is like, sooo ruling.
Look, hey, they really sit at the desks like, so professional. With the refreshments and all that.
Pure class, man.

And the desks are like, so octagonal. I think nowhere in the world they have better octagonal desks that here in Dubai.
The ruler dude makes desks happen, man!

Dubai rulez. Like.

efatima,

this is not flickr, so you should expect the unexpected from the ignorants that dunno much about photography.

Efatima, thanks for the photo. It really is cool…the posture of Shiekh Mohamed says a lot about his humble and down to earth attitude…

Yes, there are octagonal meeting desks all over the world…but where else could you find such a cynical commentaries like Nicks?

So you would like us to judge the photography? So what do we see:
A gloomy room, with obscure colors and insipid furniture, filled with a few equally murky looking, really bored folks.
This photo portrays a distressing ambiance of indifference and despair. Sort of creepy as well – somehow those brown colors and nocturnal atmosphere instantly remind me of an invasion of roaches. Finally, I would give this photo a title: “Illusions of Meritocracy”

No disrepect dear Efatima and I certainly do not want to discourage you from having an interest in photography, but in the future please try to submit something which demonstrates some original thought and just maybe with a better image quality.
From a woman I just expect a little more! :-)

Efatima, generally the concept of a label in a community blog is to post thoughts and not just paste a picture.

For all I care, this picture may mean something to you since you’re a UAE national. But to me, as an Expat, it doesn’t mean anything unless you write your thoughts along with this or any other picture.

As for your ‘Our Ruler is busy and HE makes things happen. Just thought you guys out there might want to see it.’ I don’t see things happening by looking at that picture. It’s the action that matters, which is not evident in that picture unless you or a select few see something, which we don’t!

Also, as for your ‘It also makes me sad to see that everything posted here is "attacked", mine is not an attack but the eagerness to know your objective behind this label?

If this is supposed to be a photo-op, I don't think I could say any better than some posters who've already said what’s on their mind.

Efatima thanks for the picture; really nice and as Dubai Jazz said, it shows how humble is Sheikh Mohammad. Other rulers may like to put the “wooden face” in such pictures.

One small word to any lamenting idiot who likes to write rude / mocking comments on the Middle East, Dubai, or any place in our region: go back to where you came from, try to walk alone in a dark street at night, and tell us if you arrived home with your wallet in your pocket and your nose on your face, or not.

I see three men including an unelected leader, backed by the portraits of two former unelected male leaders.

Can't say that particularly thrills me, but each to their own.

The carpet is absolutely atrocious by the way.

Yes what are you trying to show? that you met them all in this meeting? whooooohooooooo great! and this is not flicker so post something that is relevant to the blogs. one size doesnt fit all :-)

If there WAS an election these expats go on ranting about, what is the probability sheikh mo wouldnt get elected?
i wonder if expats even have a right to comment on how the uae is being run, considering that they are in fact just parasites, sucking all what they can from the tax free haven. what a way to treat your hosts people.
btw, sh. mo rocks.

You guys need to chillax!!
Amidst the uproar about the irrelevance of this post, allow me to say that a lot of morals can be drawn form the photo.
How come that a ruler that is un-elected, as Secret Dubai puts it, be so loved by his people?
Where else in the world can you find an unelected ruler that drives and walks around without security guards or entourage?

rosh said...

lol Nick - loved the Britney Spears take :)

OK then, dull furniture, elected or otherwise - you've got to understand, this is the Middle East/UAE - there hasn't been a George Washington, Lincoln or Winston Churchill persona.

Shk Mohd & his family has done much for the UAE and the region. His efforts/legacy shall always be so much more compared to GWB & Tony Blair's put together.

The pic may not be much - but give the man credit for what he has done. He had the freedom/options to rule like that despot Goddamn Hussein - instead, take a look around you. It's a positive beginning.

Hamas was elected and Ahmadineyad too, democratelly elected both, but... the most "democrat and loved elected" president of the world Mr Bush doesn't recognize them.... so, it is not about democracy or free election....You can't love what you freely elect and you can't believe that we love what we don't elect...
You... YOU are ignorants.... this is ME guys and this is ISLAM, we follow and obey our caliphs according with the sunnah of our Prophet (saw)... dont judge what you can't understand... this is our culture and first of all our religion, our religion is in our whole life, every item of our lives is guided.. even our laws, they are according with fiqh and the shariah.... we can live in peace with you but dont judge what you dont know... dont be so ignorants and simple minds.

Anonymous said...

05:29 anon -- what do shariah and fiqh have to do with anything about anything in the uae where the liquor flows freely as do the hookers during ramadan, but only after 7 with the music turned off?

nick said...

@ Rosh,
thanks. At least one got the joke.

@ Rosh & Anon at 15 October, 2007 05:29

Elected or not...The tribal system pre-dates islam by a few centuries.
There is no need to understand mockery of the mindset of idolatry (tribal leadership) as a mockery of religion.

Rosh, it's obvious that an unelected totalitarian leader can push through more than someone who is democratically elected to hold a post for a certain term and does not own the country. Totalitarian leaders also have the dubious credit of having killed more people throughout history than other leaders (Note to morons: I DO NOT suggest Sheik Mo is one of them).

I have no time for medieval and retarded concepts like tribal leadership.
To believe, like efatima, that the outward bonhomie of the leader being shown sitting hardworking at his desk is anyting else but a most primitive attempt at photo-op spin is just beyond stupidity.

On the other hand,
People like efatima who are already completely devoid of any critical intellectual capacities are probably best kept in tribal dependency for they wouldn't know what to do with electoral choice if it crept up on them and jumped in their faces.

Anonymous said...

to anon. 08:04
liquor and hookers are gifts from our non elected leaders to you, kufars, with love. At least you are building our nations, so... why not the things that you love as gifts? fiqh and shariah leads us to yannah, and those gifts are your paradise. So...accept them... are gifts just for you guys.

To Nick the prick…. said...

Nick:
While I agree with you that tribal leaders existed well before the emergence of Islam, it really is shocking to see how the elected leaders of the west (namely George khara Bush and balla3 al air Blair) how even after they've proven their blood thirst and barbarism, they both got elected for a second term!

I mean those stupid westerners, they are either so fucking stupid or they really admire the hideous actions of their leaders. This must lead you to the same conclusion either way, that you need to roll your dirty tongue back into your arse-like mouth and stop pontificating about democracy, election and white race supermacy…

Editor said...

Honestly, I disagree with such disrespect to our leaders, let alone the disrespect to the poster who only wanted to share a photo with the rest..........
Are the manners, the respect and the dignity disappearing in the comfort of the anonymity in the virtual world?

Efatima,
I do appreciate your generosity to share your private photos with virtual strangers.
Please, do continue and disregard the negative bites.........jealousy gets the worse from human being :-)

Photos are great and I like to see them. Personally I like a little story to go with them, some background information, for example, when/where it was taken, who took it, etc. So keep the photos coming, but I'd like to see some copy written about each one so we see the context it was taken in.
