An Emirati at the OutGames

There's a participant at the OutGames, in Montreal, from the UAE at the Bowling competition. The games end on August 5th, i.e. today.

There are also some participants from other Arab countries.

Why is it "not so wonderful" that an Emirati is participating in an international sporting event? Or are we all supposed to snigger like schoolkids over the fact that the participants are not straight?

and u know him/her personally?

I think it's fantastic news. It's about time that diversity and variety are recognised and extolled, rather than repression and conformity.

Whoever this athlete is - best of luck to them.

I think it's fabulous...if I wasn't a total couch queen, I'd be there myself =)

He/She gets my total support.

the reason i said that it's not wonderful is because, homosexuality is haraam and to flaunt it like this is no show of bravery.

Why do I have a feeling we're going to have another 'Brokeback Mountain' debate going on here?

flamin said...

well u see nick, wherever there are gays, that's bound to happen. it's black or white: u are ok with open homosexuality or not. hence, the battle rages.

I don't think the issue is about approval of homosexuality or otherwise. But rather, the support of fellow humans regardless of how different they are from the "norm".

Don't start a debate here on homosexuality. We already know who approves of it and who disapproves of it.

^ agree with Samawel. You are of course welcome to share your views on my own bloggy :)

Many people committing a wrong deed doesn't make it alright to do so. It is about homosexuals. But no point in arguing further because like Samawal said, We already know who approves of it and who disapproves of it.
