That's right, an episode of alias has been filmed in dubai.
Alias stars Jennifer Garner, and was created by JJ Abrams (creator of lost too).
This episode features a good 20 minutes solely of dubai, it's based at the racing tracks / grandstand.
ironically the TV show is usually about international terrorists, i wouldn't think that dubai would want this image....
and i don't think in the whole episode that "dubai" is actually said once.
and the lead actor manages to say "Sheek" rather than "sheikh"
interesting is no less than 5 seperate mentions of gambling, all of which are mentioned in dubai, at the race tracks. last time i was there, there were no places to place bets....
also interesting is this wonderful picture. an arab drinking wine.
bwahahaha

a picture of a wine glass doesnt mean anything. this is dubai, they have class, and use nice glassware to drink bebsi and abble juice in.
yes, but this particular kind of glass i have never seen apple juice or pepsi poured into.
What about his head-dress rope thingy?
Not really a fan of Alias but i'm downloading the episode now. It should be more entertaining and perhaps more realistic than that BBC Documentary ;-)
I somehow doubt it was actually filmed in Dubai coz every other episode is set in a different country anyway. If they were really here, I am sure we would of heared something about it a long time ago.
...on closer examination of one of the pix, maybe it was filmed here. hmmm
i'm quite certain it was filmed in dubai, but they certainly only showed video footage of the dubai race track so who knows...
can't be anything but good coverage though.
A fun episode ..but it definately wasnt filmed in Dubai. It almost looked authentic, but out of all the arabs that appeared on screen non of them were wearing the national dress. Plus Keefieboy made a very valid observation...
ITS A CONSPIRACY!
The guy's headdress is irrelevant. You don't film local people on location, you film extras dressed as you think/want local people to look like.
That guy in the robes is most probably neither Arab nor Afrab. I'd lay money he is an African American poorly dressed by a wardrobe department too ignorant/arrogant to care about accuracy. To us it looks screamingly funny and wrong: to an American audience it's a dark-skinned guy with a cloth on his head, therefore he must be Arab.
Try counting the actual Japanese actors in Memoirs of a Geisha. Virtually none of them are - they're all just actors of "oriental" appearance.
lol secretdubai. Hate to break it to you but the African dressed guy is one of the main characters of the show. He's an American agent, and he's just under disguise, (albeit a bad one) :) That's why he doesn't fit the scene. That's not to say that the show depicts locals realistically of course, as seen in the other pics. They'll still use American or local actors (if they did indeed film it here)
