imbeSalik - from bad to farce...

Like a good citizen, yesterday I went to buy a Salik tag.

And failed.

Unbelievably, the petrol station had run out of forms. No-one knew if or when replacements would arrive. Called the hotline, got told to try a different garage, or an Emirates bank (Not many of them open on a Friday...) Anyone else had similar difficulties?

I did eventually get one of the last three forms in another petrol station, about mid-day. So now what? Clearly, the system can't cope - people who've filled in the paperwork have yet to receive their confirmation SMS. Others can't register at all. And still the juggernaut rumbles inexorably towards July 1st.

That is going to be fun day.

They are relying on the fines more than people buying the tag hahahahaha

tried to buy mine in a petrol station on Al Wasl Road, they had the kits but I had the original car registration card, they need a copy & had no photocopy machine. I went away, made copies, went to another petrol station on SZR near Media City and they had plenty of kits too.
I still don't have the SMS confirmation though.

It's been a week since I bought my tag and I still haven't received the SMS confirmation. My sister got her tag three days ago and even she didn't receive any confirmation...so there. Wow.

I got my tag two weeks ago and still no SMS.

The car hire firms are saying they haven't been sent their tags yet, and they have thousands of cars to fix the tags to.

More proof of the competence and management skills of our friends at the RTA!

Downloaded the form from the net, went straight to Emirates Bank, got my kit in 2mins and my SMS in 4working days :) which is TODAY :)

Mr. Imbesalik (your self-chosen nickname), I was tempted to prove you wrong but knew I would be right, so didn't bother.

Banks aren't open on a weekend? Shame!!

Wait, what's wrong with your mobile that you didn't receive the text confirmation? If you have all the time in the world to whop from petrol station to petrol station, how about you enlighten us with a post about your visit to the RTA in following up your grave concern? I'm sure the majority of us would love to put a cup of coffee aside to read your tantrums. We might even have a copy of 7days to hand for when your paragraphs get boring.

Gulf News reports a shortage of Salik tags.

"RTA said it distributed 60,000 more tags yesterday due to the huge demand. So far 140,000 tags have been distributed..."

So with around half a million cars registered in Dubai, plus cars from other emirates, RTA provides sufficient Salik tags for fewer than 30% of its customers. Three days to go, and upwards of a third of a million of the necessary tags do not exist.

And they wonder why there's so little public confidence in RTA's ability to run the system!

Bought mine two weeks ago and received a (noisy) SMS at 5:35 this morning. Finally. Of course, now I can't seem to get into the website to see if the account is actually set up...

This message is for those of you who have not yet got their tag of kilas = kill us.

(Salik is put by mistake in reverse)

Please do not by any more tag, and we would be enjoying toll free roads without congestion, as many people will be making traffic on SZR.

I hope if i have a knife, I would kill Salik.
