Changing culture: The temptresses drawing Arab youth to a pop revolution
"If you look at 10, 20 years ago, the Middle East was one of those few places where parents and children enjoyed the same music - and today there is that generation gap that is forming for the first time in the Middle East"
I read the article. You might, too.

Help in resisting the sweet songs of the sirens is available.

I tried to read it yesterday, but frankly the piece is terribly written.

It is also nothing new. Not even to the BBC who did a massive online series about Arab youth culture less than a year ago.

I think watching videos of Haifa Wehbe and all these girls who have their boobs hanging out is a kind of mild form of porn.

YA HAYAWAAAN YA BANI AL KALB.

Mmm. I reckon it means that ... the younger generation have better taste in music these days? Or could it possibly be worse than their parents' generation!?

As for me, I'll stick with Fairouz, thankyou.

I doubt the kids of the past enjoyed their parents' music. More like tolerated it.

This statement is inaccurate, I remember having several melees with my father when I was a little kid (yeah I was a rowdy little bastard) over which song should be played at home and when....

I dont find it a real change into the Arab world. A real change doesnt come from some stupid ignorant singers dancing on the table in a flirtacious way (that young girls will soon imitate) or some guys ridiculazing themselves on tv dancing and singing without any skill.
A real revolution comes from seriouse songs with a real meaning.
And from intellectual university students who understand when a country needs some fresh and smart change.

There can be even nice songs sung with elegance instead of some stupid chickens that girls might take as imitation.

As to music i think there's the need for meaningful songs which these days luck Everywhere. Nice songs that help young people to use a proper language enriched by new words and meanings...
Im still for old arab songs
