Rats?

A friend of my told me of a serious problem the Marina area is facing. Something I have never heard of in my entire quarter of a century here: rats.

Just wanted to know from other marina residents if this is true?????

Nothing to be alarmed about. This is simply the result of the Marina being largely a construction zone. Once things start to settle the rat problem will go as well. Even Mall of the Emirates was considered to have a rat problem for some time after it was opened, due to ongoing construction.

Rats are a problem in all urban development. They'll still be there after the work is finished but it's normal for any place with lots of life to have rats.

I've seen a couple of of huge rats while walking around the marina.

No it isn't true. Yes it is true.

What do you want to hear, old buddy? Head down to the Marina and find out for yourself.

Your whole blog and the ridiculous topics you write about, including this and your last post on this blog, serve to create an anti-Dubai feeling amongst bloggers - you are negative and ungrateful, and this topic - about scum - is not surprising coming from you.

I totally disagree with the above comment. Localexpat raises topis for discussion and, in fact, mostly from a positive angle. The negativity comes out in the comments. Note in his previous post, even where he specifically asked for positive comment (about why one has chosen to come to Dubai), comments that came in were largely negative. This says less about the person providing the post and more about the readership.

Truth hurts, you know. So a very good option is to bury your head in the sand (plenty of that) and pretend everything's perfect (or risk being called 'ungrateful').

BTW, rats (or mice, or both) were a such a problem in the seedier parts of Satwa for years (just behind the tall high-rises lining Sheikh Zayed Road), and probably still are. The Municipality used to send out rat-hunting crews for free. They made regular weekly rounds or would come whenever called.

If you don't like them just eat them

Yes, like all cities we've always had rats around Dubai. I first ceme here in 1977 and we certainly had them then.

hmmm so its true.... just was shocked when my friend told me that he has encountered rats next to his multi-million dirham penthouse. Just thought that this was strange as I have never heard of a rat problem in Dubai.

Well I have found out from your comments that this issue has been there before and I was probably oblivious to this fact :-)

Sorry to crash the thread - anybody know what the large-looking fire down towards Palm Jumeriah is?

Lots of black smoke and fire engines flying past.

hmmm guess it's just you and me LE - cause we've never had a rat visit in the 32 years my folks have lived in this lovely SHJ villa - so yea guess I was oblivious too?
