I’ve asked to be removed from the UAE community blog, based on the fact that I had a personal disagreement with one of the community blog administrators and they choose to take me off the ‘UAE’ listed blogs to the right, and relocate my link to the ‘General’ list on the left.
Since I certainly write more about and to do with the UAE than a lot of people listed under UAE (who weren’t relocated), and the fact that I live in the UAE unlike some others there, not to mention I’m one of the very few who can see the positive in the UAE, I can’t help but feel this is a sad, little attempt to abuse ‘power’ and ‘punish’ me.
Thus, my decision to dissolve any illusion of ‘power’ this person may think they have over me. Within a few hours at the latest, I will not have access to posting here, and you won’t find my blog listed on either list.
Just thought you all should be cautioned about disagreeing with certain administrators here before I left, even those of you who are cheerful about this little good-bye of mine deserve a heads-up.

Well I did think it was relevant to the UAE - certainly more pertinent than mine which, to be frank, is just a round up of crap I find, and views on the world around me.
And you say the f word a lot (no, not food)
Thanks for the heads up. Why, I had no idea UAE community had turned into a tinpot African republic!
If you have a problem with one of the blog administrators, and believe they are acting unfairly toward you, make your case. This seems to come off as a feeble attempt to enlist 'support' for a non existent cause.
You may be writing a ton about the UAE on your own blog - although in my opinion, you write more about your personal situation - but you haven't created a single post on UAE community within the last two months.
Your frequent contributions will be sadly missed.
Ahh, clearly just one of my many fans, you must be. Did you miss the main point, where my blog is linked? Here you go, I’ll even make it all bold and pretty for you:
‘Within a few hours at the latest, I will not have access to posting here, and you won’t find my blog listed on either list.’
Or could it be the definition of the Bloglist titles that threw you off:
UAE Blogs: would logically be defined as well… blogs about UAE; which my personal blog is, as you said yourself.
General: would logically be defined as general. Check out Ugly Camel over there for a clearer picture.
I’m not bothering to ‘state my case’ anymore than I have done here, because I happen to know that the administrator cares a hell of a lot more about blogging and this community than I do, thank you very much.
And what support would I be attempting to enlist? Maybe you missed that my request to be removed has already been sent.
Whether the blog is listed to the left or the right, the point is that it is listed and it is seen clearly.
I doubt if people go by any tags in the blogworld. You are what you write.
So now a few people have mentioned that my blog was relocated a while back and I just failed to notice it until now. I apologize for the accusation to that particular person but I still want to be removed from the lists all together; since I can’t seem to comprehend why my blog would be relocated at all.
Kay? Thanks.
You can save your condescending tone for someone who cares.
Note the use of the word 'seems'. Not 'is.'
And which part of my point did you miss?
Is it necessary to inform all and sundry you are *choosing* to remove yourself from the blogroll?
If you are not going to make your case public, don't make your grievances public. Or take it to your blog. Right now, you are implying mistreatment without evidence.
If you don't care about this community, why create this post at all? You're losing sleep over being shifted from the right side of the page to the left, a page you don't give a fig about?
‘If you don't care about this community, why create this post at all? You're losing sleep over being shifted from the right side of the page to the left, a page you don't give a fig about?’
Funny when combined with this, ‘ You can save your condescending tone for someone who cares.’
Makes me wonder if you realize your hypocrisy in commenting on my post here (since you’re obviously not someone who cares); or that just eluded you, just as your selective reading seems to.
I never said I don’t give a ‘fig’ or care about this community, just that the person I believed responsible for relocating my blog cares a LOT more than I do. Contrary in fact to your accusation, I think the UAE community blog is incredibly important to the international image of the UAE.
And my issue was stated in my first comment directed at you. My Blog is about the UAE, the way I see it and what I experience here. Do you NEED a NAME? Even though I’ve just posted that I was wrong in accusing that person? I’m sorry, there are a number of administrators; I can’t tell you exactly who choose to do this.
For clarification - My issue:
My blog was once listed on the ‘From UAE’ list. It has been moved, while far less relevant blogs to the UAE still sit there; in this community a blog can be deemed as ‘general’ and no-longer ‘from uae’ for reasons beyond my comprehension. That is my issue.
I write from the UAE, about the UAE, and in most cases for the UAE against all the haters. The only reason I can assume it’s been moved, is someone doesn’t like either the way I express myself, or disagrees with my opinions. Fine. I don’t want to be listed in a community blog that discriminates in such a way.
If you want further clarification, let me know. Otherwise, please, please comment on something or to someone you DO care about.
So you didn't have a case?
Could have just asked why you had been shifted.
It is not the 'from UAE' list, it is the 'UAE' list, and the 'General' list.
The 'UAE' list deals with blogs that for the most part deal exclusively with local matters; the general blog roll is reserved for blogs dealing with stuff in general. There is no benefit of being on one list and not the other (that i'm aware of). I did not move your blog, as I've already said.
I believe the lists were originally seperate from just being UAE blogs because the list became too long; but I'm not certain.
A post detailing the updates made to the blogrolls was made here (15th May), with the main work done being the removal of inactive blogs:
"Also a few blogs have been swapped from General to UAE and vice versa, depending on how personal or UAE-related their content is. And a couple of duplications were fixed, and a couple of updates (renames) were done."
Every single blog was checked individually, those that hadn't posted for at least two months were removed, and around half a dozen blogs "swapped columns" from General to UAE and vice versa.
Creating two columns was done to make the blogrolls more manageable, and at the time the primary "split" was those who tended to blog news/business/politics about the UAE, and those whose blogs were more personal/family/creative writing based.
The left hand blogroll is now also considered rather long, and we are considering ways to split it as well. Possibly this will be a "creative" vs "general" split - with predominantly photography and literary blogs going into a separate list.
The most important thing is to find a way to promote everyone's blog to the kind of people that want to read it.
Every decision made here is democratic and challengeable. However no complaints were made about the recent changes online or in private (at least to me or anyone I communicate with).
As ever, we do appeal to people finding new UAE-based blogs to let us know about them, so we can continue to expand the community.
Hey, thanks for taking sentences from differing subjects and slicing them together, to create a new meaning! Michael Moore would be so proud.
You can enjoy using a patronising tone - perhaps it is empowering for you - but don't expect me to accept it.
So I'm a hypocrite? Because I asked why you were making allegations of dicrimination against a still unknown member of the community? Which implies what exactly? That I have done the same in the past? Heaven knows what logic you are using here, or maybe you are a fan of the word 'hypocrite.'
Oh wait, I'm not someone who cares. Because you know me, and how often I read UAE community. Yeah, that makes total sense. How was those generalizations working out for ya?
You believe the community blog is so important, and your presence relevant - where are your posts then ? All your posts are in your own private blog.
Yes, I need a name, when you fling baseless accusations at admins of ejecting you from a community. It's too easy to tar everyone with that brush, so either contact the relevant person or ask collectively.
And though you've finally explained your case, you extrapolate too easily. General does not mean, exclusionary, it implies all encompassing. From that, you've extrapolated a hell of lot further to reach your present position.
Thanks for the clarification, SD, subject closed as far as I am concerned.
Marwan, let it go; the issue has been resolved.
Personally on the rare occasions that i even click on this site,
i never notice anything that appears on the left side of the UAE Community page.
Feels like a demotion being placed there IMHO, (no diss to all the bloggers there)
TF's blog (which I found via Community) encouraged me to get writing myself. I requested to be added to General as my posts are not all UAE-related.
It may be a big re-jig job, but authors could be asked which list they think is more apt for their blog, perhaps resulting in more/clearer breakdown.
SD, regarding the cleanup exercise (15th May) a duplicate that still remains -
http://dubaithoughts.blogspot.com/
Thanks.
mohammed uk; having personally sorted through the blog lists twice before, I can say it's a pain in the ass.
It's a draining exercise, and I'd wish death upon anyone having to do it in any more of a complex manner than it already is.
You’re welcome to try doing it if you feel so strongly about it.
I will do a main post about this: but one thing I see the blogrolls as is an initial resource to find blogs.
In terms of regular reading, I imagine most people have created their own smaller list of those they like to read every day, or perhaps have created an RSS system, or Bloglines, and then made their own categories.
‘Every single blog was checked individually, those that hadn't posted for at least two months were removed, and around half a dozen blogs "swapped columns" from General to UAE and vice versa.
Creating two columns was done to make the blogrolls more manageable, and at the time the primary "split" was those who tended to blog news/business/politics about the UAE, and those whose blogs were more personal/family/creative writing based.’
I’d love to know how you determined which blogs belonged in each category after going over them all, but I’m tired and really don’t have the will to debate this.
Just let me point up to the top of comments here, where UC himself states that his blog is less relevant to the UAE than mine. I can think of more than a few off-hand that resemble this that are still on the UAE list. I can even think of some that are far longer than my own.
And you didn’t receive a complaint or enquiry into this because I only realized it now.
I respect that there’s a lot of decisions to be made by you and even the fact that you put up with a lot of psychotic-shit from the likes of me, before (and most likely after even) we know that you’re the only reason this whole community exists in the first place; probably more than you know after my own little outburst towards you.
But I can’t fathom why my blog should be deemed any less UAE than many of the ones that are on the UAE list; and can’t help but feel insulted, especially since I once watched a certain administrator agree to list a certain trolling Blogger; but ‘only on the General list’ as though it was somehow a second-class place to be.
I’ve asked to be removed all together; both in private to one admin and publicly here. I’d like for this to be done and for this debate to be over now.
Remember, I’m one of those people that sincerely believes if you don’t like the UAE, you should leave. The same goes here, no matter how many benefits I may lose because I’m not on UAE community Blogroll, I don’t like the choices the admin makes, so I would like out.
Marwan, you’re wit is outstanding; unfortunately I’m tired now and couldn’t be bothered to read through your whole little rant; as for the bits I did skim over:
You mentioned me not caring so why bother posting. You then told me to patronize someone who cares (implying you don’t care), but fail to see you, yourself were posting on something you claim you don’t care about. The Preacher who doesn’t practice - makes you a hypocrite; whether I’ve accused someone else of it or not is irrelevant.
At the end of the day… You don’t know me. I don’t know you. I’m pretty sure neither one of us has any intention nor will to get to know the other so why are you bothering? If it serves your ego; continue your attack. I promise; I’ll let you win.
Thank you for removing me.
I suspect Tainted is alleging the UAE community blog fits this category: Gulfnews: Where races don't club together.
Perhaps we should let everyone in and let them choose what blogroll to be listed under?
I myself prefer the current regime where those in charge exercise some judgment but are open to reclassifying a blog.
You only have yourself to blame if you do not first address your concerns to the administrator, preferably first in private.

I am possibly at fault here for not having my email address in my profile, but I do try to make it known as much as possible.
It's [my username here] at gmail.
Erm,I know this is off subject, but on the blogroll-general- it says that my blog was last updated on may 22,but I put a new post up today,so..
Yeah - this is something I noticed with Blogrolling when we had the recent spring cleaning. Originally I thought great - I can just do the "hover" and work out the long-inactive blogs from that. However I quickly realised that the dates were not accurate, which is why I went to visit every blog in person.
It's also why I recommend relying on Bloglines rather than the Blogroll asterisks to find new content. Otherwise you could miss stuff.
Btw Blogrolling is an automated thing, we have no control over its date-updating, only what links each roll contains.
It's alright really. I am not on the blogroll and nothing changes for me...so blah.
What's up with the bitchy sarcastic comments? Jeez, some people just don't give up. Just a REPLY would do, nobody needs their analysis or whatever they call it.
It's alright really. I am not on the blogroll
You are now! Actually, your blog is a bit of a mystery. You've been around for ages but I found out when I visited your blog a while back that you weren't in my Bloglines, so I added you. I must have assumed that you were in the rolls (I get confused sometimes when titles don't match URLs). But you weren't, so we've now put you there.
Sorry that you slipped through the net like this. I can guarantee you it was never intentional in any way, just our inefficiency.
SD:
It's alright. I don't want to be on the blogroll among redundant sarcastic pricks.
