On the eve of SALIK - a historic moment for the UAE

Many respected bloggers have written posts on Salik, and many have on the Community blog too.

We all have our opinions on it, and the advantages/disadvantages are known.

On this historic evening, the day before it starts, please share your view as in YES or NO in the comments (and any additional comments if you will).

From tomorrow, looking back in history, we'll able to see whether the future will have changed our opinions or not.

Vote away! (Please do so, this will be an interesting exercise)

My vote is YES! If it helps reduce congestion, then I say GO FOR IT Salik.

And if it helps keep the 50kmh dudes out of the fast lane, then GREAT!

Total NO!

It's not ready for implementation and it's a hasty project. There's no sense in Salik. I cancelled my meetings in Dubai tomorrow because I'm sure the first day will be pure hell. I can't imagine the queues at the labelled 'Free Exit'. God bless Jumeirah and Al Wasl.

A big fat resounding NO! But I guess that's no surprise :D

Incidentally, what happens if I don't purchase my Salik card and don't use the toll gate for a week or so? As it just so happens I'm going to be in Ruwais for the next two weeks and won't be back in Dubai before mid-July.

I'm guessing I should be registered upon first passing. Am I right?

I say YES to anything that will reduce traffic congestion and encourage people to use the mass transit system.

I say NO to SALIK because it will do neither of those things -- it will actually increase traffic on roads that can barely handle their current volume. As for the mass transit system -- well, you have to have one in order to use one.

YES

(but with a lot of reservations/suggestions/improvements as detailed in my blog)

NO!

a) It'll just move the congestion to the other roads, b) agreed by all, timing is wrong, c) putting it on around the clock is contradicting with its message of clearing the roads, it should be shut off at nights for example

I'm loathe to admit it but ... my usual trip of 30 minutes from Sharjah to Deira Dubai (at 6am) was only 15 minutes today !

Yes! and another - Yes!

I believe Salik will work, if people shall give it a chance and be honest about it. I also believe, like everything else, there is no guaranteed success on Salik. Hence if Salik does not achieve intended objectives, am sure it shall be re-engineered or removed. So give it a chance and give yourself a break :)

NO.....with the metro or the floating bridge or the road construction near galadari or the maktoum expansion still not completed, putting TOLL on garhoud is not justified right now.
If they had delayed it till next year then I wouldn't have said no, but right now will all the holes being dug up all around dubai, the TOLL system is the worst implementation of human brains IMO....

what public transport are you talking about? i was in Satwa bus station since 6 this morning but the bus #93 which is supposed to leave at 6:30am arrived at 7:15am only that several passengers who were waiting had an altercation jostling for the queue lines! then there's this new long buses arriving every now and then but all of it is route C1 which is going to the airport 1 terminal but with only 10 passengers taking it! RTA is indeed run by imbeciles! why so many reticulated bus for a route where there are no passengers! why not put it to al quoz or anywhere where there are so many passenger workers are won't to be! worst thing is, we're stuck for more than an hour in Barsha from the MOE to Springs! now this is what i call SHIT TO YOU

now its time to leave dubai ...UAE is not anymore place to live...i will not pay 16dhs and still stuck up in 2h traffic....

NO, until the system is worked out better.

I also think that it should be free during late evenings. If the idea is to reduce traffic, if there is no traffic, why have a toll?

What is this floating bridge btw? Does it really 'float'? lol!

You mentioned brain that too human!

If the they have one in this place clearly its not functioning or prehaps its not really smart!

Cheers!

To the alcoholics that have no manner, cut your drinking habit and save it for salik.

MD the bridge does float. foundations in water are very expensive and take ages to build, so a floating bridge is easier.. and as you know in dubai everything needs to be done for yesterday.
