Same here. I did some e-mailing, gave up on the www and turned the bloody thing off in frustration. I don't like to tempt fate but it seems to be back to what passes for normal speed now.
I have had problems too--still am. With Gmail and other sites refusing to load all day. But the problem is not consistent with better or different performance when going online from different locations, i.e. at home, at work, etc.
It should work just fine if you set it proxies to proxy1.emirates.net.ae port 8080. The transparent proxy seems to be having some major troubles, I've been on proxy1 for the past few years and haven't noticed any problems this week.
I think they're closing in on torrents...Since yesterday I've been locked out of almost every tracker...what the HELL am I supposed to do with this connection now?. Time to head over to those FAQs...
It has got better now. If you use a Mac you need to take the proxy out to get certain sites to work.
Also I would recommend that everyone reboots their routers (those with broadband). My torrents seemed to have died and I couldn't access my VPN, but since rebooting my router everything is fine again.
Basically: they would prefer that no one could access the internet, and businesses lose money, than people are able to access "inappopriate" content for three days.
All they had to do was take out the proxies on Sunday and allow traffic to access the internet unproxied until they fixed the problem. We would have had lightning fast internet, no disruptions, just like Tecom.
But they didn't. They would prefer us to see nothing than everything.
Inappropriate contents and blocked sites...Simply copy the inappropriate link you would like to visit, go to Google search engine, click on language tools, paste the link in the translate url ( http:www ), select a language you will not find on the webpage so there nothing being translated, hit the "translate now" button, and there you go,you get the inappropriate website through the Google proxy server...
Sure Etisalat is a Giantl in terms of pocket full of money! Wonder why they cannot fix this bug & let people of UAE enjoy the internet!! Hummmm!?>?!>!>!?!>

It was DNS issues, was able to work all right over a SSH connection.
"Etisalat Slow"
Was it ever fast?
I was told that the Malaysia quake (two days ago) caused an Internet Link Disturbance, which is why UAE's Internet was down.

Apparently, it's a Web filter glitch.
In efforts to filter inappropriate content, all appropriate content was also blocked.

Well - at least they didn't blame the earthquakes off Japan and Russia this time for cutting any cables!
