.........a good thing to do

Remember Big Yellow Taxi?

They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum.
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em.
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got till it's gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Hmm considering that its a very hardy tree and does not require a lot of maintenance. How come the Dubai Municipality goes around planting non-indigenous species all over town.

Just because they look good?

trailing spouse: i dont know what is meant, but inshAlah the Ghaf tree doesnt make it to the museum and we get to preserve our environment. Hope u planted one:)

Poo: sarcasm doesnt help regenerate these trees! so unless you intend to do something useful, please save your misplaced saracasm. and just on a side note, these ghaf trees belong to teh deserts, not the streets of Dubai, so i hope that is an answer for you. Secondly, please STOP making it an issue of dubai, i realize the disdain you carry for the town, but the ghaff trees belong to the whole of teh UAE and btw the UAE is part of teh whole world where borders mean little when we are talking about the environment and preserving it. so a cause like promoting plating a threatened tree doesn't pertain just to the UAE!

Lirun: Yes indeed we do care about such matters. Unfortunately, this blog sometimes reflect a one-sided view of what's going in the emirates, usually by a bunch of people who hate the city of dubai. I'm not here to defend anyone btw, but to say that we do care about the environment.

And btw the campaign was raised in big part to raise awareness among the inhabitants of the UAE about the wellness of the environment, so i think it speaks volumes that so far only around 800 virtual trees were planted (meaning 80 real ghaf trees will be planted)! so much for the noise that comes from the people who claim their desire to protect the emirates and their alleged affections towards it.
