Once when i was a firefighter, there was a BIG fire in a hIgh rise building!
So we had to use the helicopter to reach on the TOP to extinguish the fire, BUT the Fans of helicopter increased the fire and the Whole building burned down.
Got some more pictures here but lower quality, and a short video or two.
The fire was well underway at 6:45 this morning, so I'd be surprised if you haven't got any victims yet. I don't think there were too many people there at that time.

Can't seem to make a link, and the post title is too long, so you'll just have to see it on the front page.
From pics on silentmode's blog, traffic seems to have gone haywire with cars moving in opposite directions. But on the injury/casualty front, it all seems quiet. Thank God for that.
I am in DXB on business, staying at the Fairmont - and woke upto smoke filled skies on SZR this morning, almost reminded me of New York.
SZR was slow, after 3 hours it's still super slow. The cops seem a bit overwhelmed, but they are hanging in there and doing a good job.
Drivers should be calm (I know easier said than done) - the weather is not hot, but quite pleasant - and the radio stations are churning some nice music - so let's not honk our selves to some stress please.
No casualites reported yet - hopefully there are none. This building was under construction.
Yea its the talk of the morning .. everyone is talking about it ... TRAFFIC IS A NIGHTMARE i heard they closed Sh.Zayed Rd. How did it happen i wonder and if it is only 1 floor why did it take them ages to stop it????
Hi - I work on the new paper, XPRESS - please do send us your photos if you'd like to, we've got a few great ones already from readers. Have a look here - http://www.xpress4me.com/news/uae/dubai/20000518.html
I thought Fortune Tower was a wake-up call. Obviously not. Builders need to have a safety checklist. If they have to close shop for a few days to do that, then they should. I think most contractors are reacting superficially to these kinds of events thinking it won't happen to them. One more of these and Dubai construction will start to look like a joke.
There are too many fires these days. Two in DMC and now this. It's becoming a bit of a problem now. What I don't get is, what the hell does a fire have to do with traffic? Why are we getting traffic issues when there is a fire? Are people that damned curious? Jeez.
That's what I was thinking, the fire is way up on the top floor of a building under construction with no one in it. Why are the roads clogged?
The emergency services took ages to arrive! The building had been burning for an hour and there was only a lone helicopter circling the top of the building.
I heard the fire had started at around 6, but I'm not too sure about that.

OMG - That pic is so reminiscent of New York.
Hope no one was hurt and construction safety regulations are further heightened.
Oh and let the moaning and groaning about traffic nightmares begin!!
Just came on to inquire why they've put us all on standby here at the Trauma Center. This must be it.
No casualties in as of yet and hopefully there won't be any. Thanks for the heads up, silentmode.

I wonder how they will do it now?
