A Dubai car plate number (E15) was sold in an auction held by
Dubai Roads & Transport Authority for AED 3,120,000 (US $850,000). The owner of the plate number is Aqeel Saeed Abdulla, who also owns other special plate numbers such as (27, 68, 72, 234, 126, 127, 128)

What's the significance of E15?
more money than sense! prove me wrong!!
john b., E15 will finally show him for the tit he is :)
Whats the big deal anyway?
why does it bother anyone how some people spend their money?
you kinda have to, cg, when you look at the number of people that die of hunger and starvation each year, not to mention the poor population that lives in their own back yard. the hypocrisy and the ignorant attitude gets to me more than being arsed about how someone spends his money, really... the deafening silence surrounding the killing of women and children and the rape of the helpless and not one word is uttered... yes, i get bothered by it.
oh, and referring to ash's post (of greedy apepitites and glass houses) way down in the list... perhaps we should be more bothered with how people make their money rather than spend it.
I agree with you if only in part, word verification hater and I also agree with ash's post too. Although, I don't condone over-spending for meaningless indulgences {someone tell my Dad :wallbang:}, I certainly don't hold such people accountable for all the pain in this world or for not spending their money on good cause either. My father spends a lot for the upkeep of his social status but then he also spends on good cause. So what's to say this man doesn't either? See my point :)
Hating never did nobody no good, even if it was only directed at word verification, which it obviously was not :)
I just don't understand why number plates are put up for aution. What's the significance? Is it for charity? Surely you register your car, you get a number plate, who cares what number is on it.
Poeple dont have food to eat in Kenya!
But people in kenya can drive E15 number plates for FREE, They have plenty of them!
So the guy is a certified luzer and dickhead.
I'd spend the money on a lush car and make sure the plate is crap, haha.
likewise it's crap coz of what someone else said about poverty and what not.
also I will never buy a E15 number even for FREE!
Simply, Police will note down my number VERY EASILY.
I wud rather have a number plate like 285479317254525584!
you still don't get it. It is not our business to judge peoples spending habits. If they have it then let them spend it.
How do you know how much money he gave to charitable causes? Maybe it is more than you did.
it s absolutely stupid to pay for small piece of metal that much. almost a million dollar???what tha..
ok, if you have more money than you want, you can seriously change life of others for that much....there are still millions starving and dying everyday because they can't afford to pay price of bread and rice!!!!
yes cg, I agree with you but still the spending doesn't justify the purpose in any kind of logic...
Gotta agree with CG. Dubai breeds on the motto of "if you got it - flaunt it" though that's not to say that the buyer hasn't done his share of charity work etc.
Whether or not you criticize him for spending money on stupid crap; you have to criticize him for spending money on stupid crap at the wrong time.
If it was an investment, it sucked. Because the RTA are apparantly considering introducing personalized number plates.
Ha, ha, good one, Sam! Won't it be poetic justice if soon EVERYONE can buy a personalized plate for a reasonable amount? In Ontario they cost from about 700AED to 950AED depending on the style.
Oh, and once you've bought one (in Ontario), you're not allowed to sell it.
I never understood (and still don't) on having a flashy licence plate in the UAE. I mean what IS the big deal? The car probably will have black tinted windows anyway : )
Oh well - perhaps the licence proceeds will help create more jobs and fund traffic dept projects etc?
I think its stupid spending this kind of money on a plate number!
The money was not thrown away, in which case I would suggest giving it to the poor. Once he gets sick of driving E15 (or until he reads this blog) he will put it up for sale and will most likely make a profit.
I see it as an investment, not a piece of metal.
To those that really have all the sympathy for the poor, then why don't you give up drinking and give it to the poor instead ?
Atleast you'll save yourself and others while driving.
"why don't you give up drinking and give it to the poor instead ?"
who said anyone opposing spending extra money on a number plate 'drinks'?
