Upping the games, boys, includes education to keep up with the girls. Shameless plug.

I dont believe this figure. It must be the other way around.

It is actually the male who are picky comparing to the females.

It is applied to 200 only

Most, females and males, prefer arranged marriege.

oh boy!

my favourite subject! with these facts have they also put in the percentage of divorce... and second marriages... and adultry... and... etc...

This is the case not only in the UAE but with a lot of Arab & eastern cultures - and before anyone jumps down my throat I know its not ALL Arab cultures that's why I said a lot.

Ask anyone married, there is no great recipe for the best way & marriage. As we say, marriage is like a watermelon; you can never be sure of what you're getting until you break it & taste it.

Interesting statistics. But nothing really new, It has been part of our tradition that when a guy proposes to a women the women decides if she would go for him or not. Sometimes the parents intervene I know. Even in the case of arranged marriges, parents nominate a guy or two to the lady (her relatives, family friends) and women still choose.

But I belive the cases of forced marrige are rare these days.

sam what about anon 12:36?

I think it makes sense regardless of the figures.

Many men play and fool around, so they can't trust them selves to marry a "decent" woman therefore they get mom to find them a decent wife.

Women witness men fooling around and then they decide to intervene with fate so they choose not to be with losers.

I'd be interested in knowing what is meant by "choosing their husbands themselves". As it stands now, girls can generally (not always!) say 'no' to a proposed match, in which case they may view that as choosing their husbands. But in the western idea of choosing a husband, these young women are still kept isolated from eligible men outside their families, so I think this 'result' is misleading. I do know of one Emirati girl who met a nice man t work ... her family found out she was interested in a man she worked with and promptly forced her to leave her job.

Oh well. Maybe things will actually change one day.

Mitsuki can u enlighten me about the ways u got to choose ur husband and not by arranged marriege? Because as far as I know most (like 80 -90%) marry the arranged way.

I'd say it is time to up the game-boys...

^^ Actually the majority aren't forced . I thought that when u said that u want to choose ur husband that u want to know him before getting married by having a date for example.

^^ What is the point of ur post?

@Mitsuki

I dont remember a time when females were forced to marry some one. That is new to me and am an Emirati.
