USA, United States of Arabia

I've found an interesting news-opinion piece that seems to have people talking:

"Is it finally time for Arabia to unite? With all the political ideas for what to do with the nations in the middle east, has anyone considered Uniting them under one flag. Or is that too much power to provide one conglomerate in the middle east?" Read More... [via Newsvine]

the idea has always been there.. every arab is in a diaspora dreaming about re uniting the arab states.. but this constitutes a political threat to the existence of israel.. and a threat to iran.. i think the dream of the arab state was there but it is probably fading..

where would the capital be?

Arabs should start loving each other as a start before thinking to unite.

filthy ca$h said, "where would the capital be?"

Somebody commenting on the article (at Newsvine) mentioned the capital should be Dubai!

The GCC is notorious for its ongoing inability to ever actually agree on anything: or rather, they can agree that, for example, a GCC-wide railway system, a unified currency, a Gulfwide electricity transmission system would all be fantastic. But that's as far as it ever gets. I decline to comment about why this is.

Yeah right!! Dubai could work as a capital for European United States not Arabic.
Duabi has got nothing to do with Arabic things.

It's a brilliant idea, but that idea has existed for so long and somehow died out with the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser. It was he who was most active in attempting to unite Arab countries. It didn't work out too well.

Our only hope is something remotely similar to the EU, not like the US.

A united GCC...thats as much as possible as pakistan & india being united as one country....
& there is just too much back biting & friction among the countries

You see bobo, the UAE has changed alot in the past 5 years. Nowadays if you criticize a Sheikh, you do not get arrested like before.

Nasser was a hysteric, Sadat was an opportunist snake, and Mubarak is a theif.

I patiently await the next thug who tries to deny my right to critisize another human being, so he can get his neck broken.

which shaikh would that be?

How laughable - Arab unity didn't even exist in the time of Nasser (who basically had his ass saved by the US, not the US of Arabia) ...how would it even have a hope of existing now?

Too many differing cultures, too many differing mentalities and too many differing corrupt leaders :)

A real unity is a nobel idea, however the seeds were planted to crush this almost 100 years ago by world powers by carving up the region......together a united arab nation from africa through the middle east would have all the resorces that would be needed to become a economic heavyweight on its own, therefore threating the powers that be. To stop this colonyal powers decided to carve up the region and split them into small kingdoms each having almost no resources to prosper on there own.........therefore needing the very world powers that destroyed them to keep them alive, and at the same time would give reason for these small kingdoms would resent each other enough to keep them unstable. The only way the Arab World will prosper is to have some kind of unification.......I don't know if a full one is possible any more but some kind is nessicary. First and formost a revolution must happen in region from one end to the other, problem with this is this could bring extremism to the forfront........thats a whole nother story......................................

Considering what ArabUnity said does that mean that if the Arabian monarchies became republics that would make it easier for there to be a united Arabia? Without feuding monarchs who all want to hold on to their power it would seem easier. However, there's still the problem with one state gaining too much power (i.e. Egypt in the United Arab Republic).

I'm a white American guy, but I think most of the countries created by colonialists should redefine their boundaries by history, ethnicity, and religion to stop the conflicts (maybe not India since it seems stable enough). Of course there are vested interests against this and not just the former colonial powers but the people who have power in the Third World due to how it was carved up.

I actually had a professor in college who said she was in Sierra Leone (yes I know that's far from Arabia but it had similar experiences) when it became independent, and Britain and British businesses were taking everything they could. Lightbulbs and pipes were removed from infrastructure. I also learned that while West Africa's borders were carved up to run north and south, traditional ethnic territory ran east and west.
