Murder in the Burj!

A Russian millionaire was killed in an alleged shootout, while another man was seriously injured in the incident that took place at the Burj Al Arab Hotel here in the small hours yesterday.

The victims, according to a hotel source, were guests. Unconfirmed reports said the millionaire was staying in one of the suites. Two men, known to him, entered his suite and shot him dead in the course of a dunken brawl, these reports said.

Executives at Burj Al Arab declined to comment on the incident, and so did Anna Bleacker, Director of Communications and Public Relations for the Jumeirah Group.

I hope they don't issue a statement saying it was the filming of Syriana 2 or some other mafia movie.

Anyways, what are 'small' hours?

I just love that - "The Director of Communications & Public Relations refused to comment". A fine example of the communications & public relations skills we have in Dubai!

Say nothing, censor the media, pretend it didn't happen. That way of dealing with things has to change.

trailingspouse - our favourite number one newspaper can't even efficient enough to do the censoring they're told to do!

(I keep on about our media not having proof-readers)

Things just got a lot less quiet. Is this same Russian gazillionaire who has a private garage in the Burj lot, housing (among others) a Ferrari f430, escalade, a Rolls and assorted AMG Mercedes?

If so, did he mention me in his will?

That link still comes up with no text for me.

Similarly, I just (8.45pm) searched Google News for "Burj Al Arab" and got this:

One killed in attack at Burj Al Arab
Khaleej Times, United Arab Emirates - 5 hours ago
DUBAI - Two Syrian men were violently attacked on Tuesday night in a suite at the world renowned Burj Al Arab. They were alleged ...

but that link comes up without text too. Hmmm. Is is just me?

Is it me or did SecretDubai remove the Burj Al Arab post from the SD blog ?

What happened Jumeriah International sent a quick C&D letter to her via its overpaid legal goons ?

I temporarily voluntarily depublished it, after information from someone about the event. If the UK tabloids pick it up tomorrow, I'll republish it. Otherwise I'll wait until it's off my front page, and the republish it.

It's already been "buried" somewhat by other posts here, so I'll leave this one open.

What's with Emirates Today requiring everyone to log in before they can read ANYTHING? This is a free newspaper!

ts, yes that change to EmTod annoyed me too. I also can't work out how to link to their stories any more.

KT's taken it off because they were wrong....a russian wasn't killed and it wasn't a shootout....7 days and Gulf News are having the last laugh... both the reports mention that 'earlier reports (the ones that appeared in KT) were wrong'.... in addition KT's taken out the articles from their online archive...hee hee

I don't think it was Russian, I just spoke to few "girls" who providing escort services, they said the guy who having such garage in Burj Al Arab are Ukranian, not Russian.
