Mobile Scam?

There's an SMS message doing the rounds that says if you forward it to 10 other people you will get 25 dirhams credit added to your balance:

"Congratulation! 2 day is anniversary of Etisalat. So forward this sms to 10 other people u will get free balance of AED 25/"

In a moment of stupidity I forwarded it on and realised, after an hour of no extra credit, that I'd been scammed. Sorry to the 10 people I forwarded it to, I hope you're not as stupid as me...

I'm glad I didn't forward it out. :)

I'm trying to start a new viral text message: "Sheikh Abdul Bin Du Estisalat declares all residents of the UAE with mobile phones receive a holiday Thursday so they can spend the day adding 050 to all their phone numbers. Call 101 for details"

I got one from an idiot friend, and so did the missus. A non-idiot friend of ours had told us about this scam: he had received ten copies of it, which surely ought to qualify him for something!

bear in mind that these things can in fact include viruses..

probably want to take an extra look at the phone bill at the end of the month and see that it looks reasonable..

I received many messages, but didn't forward any. It was so clear that it was a scam. The Arabic media carried it, there was a statement from Etisalat.

It happened here last Eid when a mesg contains a prayer on our Prophet was sent and at the bottom a request to forward it to 10 people. Don't you just hate it when they get religion in scams. Some poeple buy that you know and think some curse will land on their head if they decide not to do it.

Did anyone contact the person who sent them the message to let them know it was a scam and ask them to contact the other 9 friends (plus the person who forwarded it to them) to let them know?

And if you were one of those who fell for it, did you inform your 10 friends as soon as you realised?

Otherwise, the only winner is (guess who???) Etisalat!

Reverse scamming.

I think when you receive a message from someone you know, you are more likely to accept its contents at face value.
