Yep, sadly it does. When/if that furore quietens down, we may be able to return to normal. But I think people posting here should be aware that what goes on here is now being officially monitored. I fear it will continue long after the 7Days row cools down, so things will probably never be quite the same.

SD, what "is" being monitored. The possibility that people can (or cannot) have open debates, yet respecting each other's views on issues which otherwise may never be discussed as transparently in the UAE (and this includes critical assessment on UAE telecom, the Government, it's agendas, community, traffic, labour issues and so on) OR the fact people should totally do away with name calling and personal insults and provocative articles similar to 7 days bitch school?

Blogrosh, I really don't know, other than the 7Days post/resulting argument seems to have been the trigger. Why they would bother with this place is beyond me, but apparently they are, so there's not a lot we can do about it.

And an interesting layout in GN Tabloid yesterday . . . an article about lack of privacy in the blogging world ("There are no secrets on the internet") on page 22, directly facting their weekly Pick of the Week from local bloggers. Are they trying to tell us something?

I kind of expected that Keefie. :D

Aren't we getting a first hand experience on how journalists in UAE feels while writing an article?

SD if u want us to return with our posts first get that policy out of our faces change its post year to 2006

The fact that some of the authorities are monitoring this blog among others should not deter people from having open debates.

Most communication is safe to assume as monitored. The authorities in the UAE are significantly more understanding than they are being credited for (relative to the region). The fact that 7Days is still running and we are still here should be a clear indication that no one minds a healthy debate.

The problem is that we are all eager to simply have someone draw the line for us. Tell us what we can and cannot do so we don't step on anyone's toes. Most people like to stay within the law, whether they agree with it or not.

Yep - I was planning to do that. I wish Blogger had a "cut" function (like LiveJournal) so I could have made it less obtrusive.

Oh fuddle duddle, Blogger won't co-operate this morning. The links STILL didn't work. Will try again later. Thanks b_in_d for pointing that out.
