Reward for a Tip-off!

Katie has always tried redefining the boundaries of journalism in the Gulf.

Can anyone tell me, isn't offering a reward crossing the thin line of journalistic ethics? I am pretty sure this is not the first time Katie has crossed the line!

hmm... perhaps the reward is a big kiss from Galadari!

BTW, deleted your double post of this.

No - this is quite normal, it happens overseas too.

Yep in India, news channels provide such incentives.

Recently heard a story about a famous Indian Actor-Actress couple present at a developers office to book an apartment. The office boy informs a news channel, When the actor comes to pay the booking amount - lots of media persons are present there. The actor ends up cancelling his purchase.

The company loses a MAJOR sale, but the office boy is rewarded Rs. 1 Lakh from the news channel.

BBC gives a reward for a tip off? Can you please give me a link nativeinformant.

The question remains... just cause everyone is doing does it make it right? Or shouldn't they just legalize it and state - ethics don't matter anymore in the media?

freemind - not sure about the reward but they definitely solicit stories. I see the link in my Live News feed, but it hasnt been working last few days. Will post when I get access to it again.

It's really just an extension of paying a stringer, or paying salary to a resident reporter.
